Almost Finished! by fishers

Almost Finished!

York's Scarborough Bridge is due to be handed back to railway operators ready for trains to start running again tomorrow morning, following the replacement of it's decks (see http://365project.org/fishers/365/2015-02-21).

This shot shows the rapid progress that has been made. The new bridge decks have been covered by waterproof and vibration reducing membranes, new ballast and tracks laid.

In this shot a tamping machine is running slowly along the new rails onto the bridge. As it moves, it is compacting and consolidating the new ballast below the new track ready for it to be used. So, almost completed and ahead of schedule.

They're certainly getting on with it. Had to smile when I read your third paragraph - it reads like a book my grandchildren are fond of, called 'Making a road', which describes in turn what each machine does.

Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are much appreciated. The bridge and riverside paths are now complete and opened again, so quite an impressive job to get the work done in 9 days.
