Weather Vane, Tickhill by fishers

Weather Vane, Tickhill

This weather vane dates back to the 19th century and is mounted on the dome of the market cross. The market cross itself is described as an 'Ashlar circular peripteral Roman Doric temple form, with saucer dome' and it dates back to 1777. It's situated at a major road junction at the heart of the village.

As you can see, the weather was rather dull while I was near the market cross, but there were also bursts of glorious sunshine during the day too.

Tickhill obviously takes care of its heritage... this is a rather splendid weather-vane - presenting it as a silhouette works well.

As always your texts answer most questions that arise. That's a beautiful intricate weather-vane, excellently set against that dark sky.

Thank you all for your comments and favs, it's nice to hear from you!

The thing that caught my eye with this weather vane was that it wasn't just a functional design, but also had ornamentation, which is such a nice feature of items designed during Victorian times.
