'Dickie' Bird by fishers

'Dickie' Bird

Harold Dennis "Dickie" Bird, OBE is a retired English international cricket umpire. During his long umpiring career, he became a much-loved figure among players and viewing public, due to his excellence as an umpire, but also his many eccentricities.

This sculpture can be found close to the centre of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and near where he was born.

@busylady @bkbinthecity @seattlite @dide @pyrrhula Thank you all for your comments and favs, as usual they are all appreciated.

The day after I took this shot I saw Dickie Bird on a local news programme, paying a visit to Barnsley Hospital to hand over a cheque for £15,000 to the Tiny Hearts appeal, which is aiming to raise one million pounds towards their new neonatal ward.
