I don't think I will bother going for a cruise by fishers

I don't think I will bother going for a cruise

Three reasons for not going for a cruise 1) The boats aren't running, 2) It's impossible to get to the landing stage where they depart from, and 3) Even if 1) and 2) didn't apply, the boats couldn't get under the bridges in the city centre anyway!

This is another shot from last week. The river level went down a bit after this was taken, but after heavy rain in the Dales, the Rivers Swale, Ure and Nidd have fed additional water into the River Ouse and it has risen again.

I should stress that for the vast majority of people in York the high river levels and flooding have little or no effect on their daily life, with the flood defences working well and protecting areas that once flooded.

I like your 1 2 and 3 reasons why not go cruising. super picture.

Wow...good to get both sides of the story but it's certainly pretty devastating for those in the path of the water.

Anyone interested in water polo could try Rowntree Park.

Me either!
@jesika2 We were looking at some old photos of a holiday in an apartment next to Rowntree Park today and speculating that it would be a tad on the wet side!

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated!

The flooding continues, with the river rising slightly today, but it looks like the worst could soon be over, with the river reaching a peak of 4.5 metres above normal today and a slow decline in river height from tomorrow.

@fishers A river level 4.5 m above normal sounds enormous... I'm surprised you're not all under water!
February 24th, 2020
@vignouse It does sound a lot, but the effects are quite localised at that level since the flood defences were built. It's when 4.8 metres is exceeded that the effects become a bit more widespread.

It's pretty scary how the water rises so far and so fast!

@dide

It can be, but it is a regular event in York, and for most just forms a background to their daily life.
