City Cruises York run a variety of boats on the River Ouse in York, from small self drive boats to large boats like the River Duchess. The large boats are a relaxing way to enjoy a different view of the city centre. Since the relaxation of the Covid-19 restrictions, they seem to have been popular with visitors and locals.
I took this shot on my way home yesterday, looking north-west towards Clifton Long Reach as River Duchess was returning to the city centre. There was a second vessel a little further upstream that passed me near Clifton Bridge.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It's quite a while since I last took a trip on these tour boats, but one strong memory I have is from 2001, when much countryside was closed due to foot and mouth disease. As part of my job I had spent all day in meetings with other Nestle managers, and as a reward we were taken on an evening boat cruise which went right downstream to Naburn locks. The wildlife along the banks was incredible, since they had been little disturbed along the riverside paths due to foot and mouth access restrictions. It was an evening I will never forget.
Lovely to hear from you Lizzy. The centre of York is quite busy with boats, but mainly smaller ones. These tour boats are the largest. There is no regular freight now - the last regular cargo deliveries were of newsprint for our local newspaper, but that finished some years ago. It would be interesting to see some of your photos of the boats on your canal, if you can post them.
@fishers Hi Ian-I have been quietly enjoying your photos-I posted a few older shots of the different boats that pass through the canal here, along with a couple of links that are of interest-the railroad bridge& the replica of the Mayflower ll. I hope you enjoy them. Best to Katharine!

Than you Joyce, these boats are quite popular and give an interesting and relaxed view of the city.
Ian
They seem to be running almost normally, but with fewer passengers due to social distancing.
Ian
Thank you Lizzy - looking forward to seeing your photos a little later, when the day quietens down a bit!
Ian
Thank you Yolanda - Seeing the tour boats back in use after the Covid-19 lockdown makes life seem a little more normal.
