The riverside path from Clifton into the centre of York eventually passes through a stone arch below Scarborough Bridge, the railway route east from York to the coast.
The view from the arch looking along the River Ouse leads to Lendal Bridge, built in the early 1860s to replace a ferry and improve access to the railway station.
Beyond the bridge more tour boats can be seen, and scaffolding covers part of the former Municipal Offices which are being redeveloped.
Trees line both banks of the river here, and within a few weeks the change to autumn colours makes them a very attractive place to walk.
