Another look in the archives. Covid-19 continues it's rampage through York, with the rate of new cases eight times higher than it was a month ago, so at the moment it is very much a stay at home time.
This shot was taken at the end of December 2005 with my first digital camera - a Fuji A345 compact. This was during my first walk with the new camera, which I had received as a Christmas present.
My walk took me out of York along the banks of the River Ouse heading north, and this scene is at Rawcliffe Landing. It was a very grey, cold and frosty day with some patches of mist. I like the sweeping curve of the river here, and the small boat moored as if awaiting the spring so it can be off on it's travels again.
This view is no longer available. Vegetation has grown and obscured the scene from this viewpoint. A simular view today is only possible by hanging over the riverbank and risking ending up in the river - not a great idea!
Really atmospheric, almost magical. A local Dr claimed there were 1 in 18 people infected in my town.......evidence would seem to suggest it is only 1 in 40 - 50, but that is still a tad high for comfort! Staying home and braving a weekly shop early in the morning when hardly anyone else is there.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It is fascinating looking back at my early digital photos. I seem to have spent a lot of time in the early months of 2006 visiting places around the country in cold, wet and sometimes snowy conditions - but I have some great memories of those outings!

Nice to know that this view is still there and who knows, someday it will be available again
A beautiful wintry scene.
