Still on my short walk beside the River Foss in York, a break in the trees lining the river gave this glimpse of some fairly modern residences on the opposite bank of the river.
This section of river was once very vulnerable to flooding, but the Foss Barrier near the confluence with the River Ouse has reduced (though not eliminated) the risk, and in front of these properties there is a flood wall to further reduce the risk. There is also a walkway between the flood wall and the river bank. Later in my walk, some of the local geese were agressively defending their territory from a young lady who was walking that path.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I agree with those of you who have expressed doubts about living beside this river which has in the past flooded. I know huge amounts of money have been spent to improve the flood defences but I wouldn't want to take the risk. Perhaps I could be persuaded to have an apartment there, but not a ground floor one!

Thank you - I think the riverside view is lovely, but not so great when the river floods!
