Victorian Folly by fishers

Victorian Folly

This rather ornate little tower gives access to York city walls beside Baile Hill, next to Skeldergate. It was built in Victorian times as part of the restoration work to make the walls accessible and safe for people to walk along.

In ealier times it would have been a useless and dangerous access point, since the access is outside the old city, and there is no access to the walls from inside the old city. It would have been very useful for anyone attacking the city in an earlier age!
