This is one of two varieties of calendula grown along the borders beside the main path into Rowntree Park, York, the other variety having a yellow centre.
The RHS Gardening website says "These easy-to-grow hardy annuals flower from summer through to early autumn, making them a great choice for summer borders and containers. The flowers are good for cutting, have edible petals and are also used by herbalists to make skincare products. Plants often self-seed from year to year." They certainly make a welcoming entrance to the park.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It is always fascinating to zoom in to see details that you barely notice otherwise. I was quite pleased with this shot.
