Amongst the terraced gardens at Rivington, in Lancashire, there is this Swimming Pool. A murky pond where Lord Leverhulme once used to take his morning dip. The whole area is one of overgrown terraces, grottoes, loggias, arches and steps, a jungle labyrinth of ornamental pathways leading along and up and down the steep wooded hillside. A sham castle and two prospect towers can also be seen in this country park.
Full of atmosphere. I love Rivington. I wish that someone could restore the terraces and surrounding area to their former glory. I read in a Lancashire Life mag that Lord Leverhulme built it all for his wife. Looking at old photos it was beautiful.
