The moon is the closest it's been to earth since 1993. Woohoo. Took this on the sidewalk outside of my house. I'm thinking maybe it would've looked clearer if I had gone out of town into the mountains maybe?
@celticmystyc This is a big crop. I shot it at 300mm, which is 450mm in reality with the crop factor of the camera's sensor. Then I cropped the crap out of it in photoshop. Kinda wish I could've had a teleconverter to steal for this...
Ssshhhhhh don't reveal all your secrets!! LOL My camera is a point and shot on steroids, still can't do what you did! Although I thought if I leave it in the moonlight it might "change"....
@celticmystyc I have an advanced p+s that can do 500mm... I should go out and try it! But not sure the quality would be the same... and I should be studying for a test :(
This is great! I went to take a photo of the super moon in Philadelphia (okay and after a bit of wine) and it turns out the street light dominated the picture. The second photo showed the moon, but everything on the street was blurry. So I am glad that you had such a beautifu shot.
I just went out on my sidewalk and tried using my Canon 55 - 250mm with a 2x converter. Used various settings. Didn't come close to as impressive as yours. Any pointers? It does come out to be decent size and you can tell it's the moon. But yea. Any pointers?
@craziemutant This is cropped quite a bit in Photoshop, original image the moon is nowhere near as big. The hardest part was not having the moon overexposed, so I think this shot ended up being at f32, 1/100, and iso 200. I just played around until it looked good.
@kirsty1975 I'm hoping for clear skies, too! I want to redo them, shoot in RAW so there isn't as much noise, and probably at an iso lower than 200. It's cloudy here right now, so I'll just have to wait and see...

@cazink Thank you!
