Framed.

I went up to Seattle today to meet my son (@VitaminK) - he flew in from Kansas City, MO last night. My only child. He is getting married in July - and his lovely fiance is in the middle of finals this week at UMKC (second year law student) so was unable to come. We got the cake ordered, and went to a food tasting at the venue. The wedding is going to be in Seattle in July. We were able to visit some of our old stomping grounds. This is part of Seattle framed from Gasworks Park.
Had a bit of a scary experience when a homeless person jumped up and came at me for taking pics of him (I was actually not - I was taking pics of Seagulls and the back of another person) - but he shook our hands and was our friend afterwards. Still - really un nerved me!
Anyway will have more pics from the day over the next week.
That would really scare me! I can't wait to take my daughter's senior pictures from gasworks! (Ok, I have a few years.). Love the perspective and view.

It scared me, Joanne - and would have even more if my son wasn't there.
Gasworks is so much nicer than it was when my son was small. There were lots of people sitting in the sun - but barely six square inches anywhere without goose poop - so we didn't sit on the grass. @mamamia

@paul2782 - Thanks Paul. My only difficulty today was that the weather, while gorgeous and hot, was very hazy.

It was sunny in Seattle ! Yeah..I think a wedding their sounds wonderful. I have only been once but think it is a really neat place. I bet it was unnerving when the homeless guy jumped up, unfortunately there is a alot of mental health problems in that population.. Sounds like a great visit overall though.

Great framing and cityscape and a lovely story! Must be a very stressful time for your future daughter-in-law, any final exams are tough but Law has got to be amongst the toughest.

@taffy - Thanks Taffy.
@swilde - Thanks Sue.
@bristolrose - Thanks Kathryn - I lived in Seattle for several years - it's a great City. There is a lot of homelessness in the area - it's so sad and so much worse than when I lived there. I have very rarely seen aggression though - not like in Tacoma further south where some of the panhandlers can be extremely aggressive. I understood where he was coming from though - even though I hadn't pointed my camera at him, there were a lot of tourists in the area taking pics of people as well as the city - and one has to be careful there. It's very different to taking candid pics in a public place. The homeless are very vulnerable. Agreed about the mental health, too.

@paulaw - Thanks Paula. Law is very tough and the final is the grade for the entire year - so if you are having an off day during the exams, it can be catostrophic. This is definitely a stressful time with her. Next week the exams will be behind her and she can concentrate on the wedding.

@sansjuan - Thanks Nita!
@nanderson - Thanks Nancy!

Great composition. Love your framing. It really adds interest. Have a wonderful time with your son!

My daughter graduated the summer before last with a degree in Law and definitely found the finals extremely stressful for the reasons you mention, but I am pleased to say she did very well as I am sure your future daughter in law will also. (She decided at the end of all the hard work that Law wasn't her thing after all and is currently working for a financial services company in London's West End instead!!)

@pflaume - Thanks Lisa.
@paulaw - Paula that is awesome your daughter got her law degree. I do wonder what field she will go into - she has an idea but isn't fully decided. My son is an environmental biologist - and so they will ultimately go where they can both get jobs. Of course I am rooting for the west coast....LOL.

I'll root for the west coast for you too!! My son graduated last year with a degree in Geology and we thought he would end up either on a rig or in a desert somewhere. He ended up getting a job 20 miles from home and is back living with us!! It took a bit of adjustment on both sides but things are settled for now and it's quite nice having them back for a bit longer. All the best of luck to them both.

This is a gorgeous photo Jan and lovely to learn so much about your family! Hope all goes well for the exams and how exciting to be planning a wedding! Can't wait to see those pictures! I envy your son his job, it sounds wonderful! They have a very bright future ahead of them by the sounds of it :))

Caz
Love the framing . Sorry you had a fright though. Enjoy the time with your son :)

Great pov! I'm a Seattle native, but left 23 years ago. I find it kind of overwhelming now, but it's fun visiting those familiar places. Glad you enjoyed your time with your son!
May 12th, 2013
@paulaw - Thanks Paula - neat to have your son with you - even if it was an adjustment. My son is a four hour flight away - much closer than when he was in China, though - LOL. :-)
@andrina - thanks Andrina - they do have a bright future - we aer all looking forward to the wedding. :-)
@bizziebeeme @grammyn @timandelke @cazann - thanks for the nice comments about my Seattle photo. :-)
@nanalisarocks - Thanks Lisa - I left 15 years ago and I do find it overwhelming at times, too - traffic is horrendous and the drivers have a lack of courtesy!
May 13th, 2013
@jankoos "lack of courtesy" is a very polite description!
May 13th, 2013
@nanalisarocks - LOL Lisa - I didn't feel very polite when I was trying to get across Mercer and no-one wanted to let me in - people were driving in the turn lane to get to the front of the line - chaotic! I also saw more middle fingers raised in one day than perhaps the last several months combined. I thought they were rude in Pierce County where I live - but Seattle had us beat.

Unusual framing - works well!
