Just good friends

The wonderfully named Bombilius Major or Beefly.
This one flew into my house and kindly posed for photgraphs before heading back into the garden.
The "stinger" is just his proboscis, perfectly harmless.

Nice catch although I can't say I would be convinced it wasn't going to sting me!

@888rachel Thank you, Rachel. They'll be flying again in a few weeks and I'll be spending most of my time in my tiny garden.

@fr1da Thank you and thanks for the favourite. Beeflies are super little insects.

@gaylewood I was amazed when he calmly sat on my hand as I turned it in every direction to get the best possible shots. Amazing indeed. Thank you

Love your macros and I'm learning so much about insects.

@joev Thank you, Joe. I find the tiny world fascinating. I could walk past you, not see you, but see a green Shield Bug on a leaf 20 feet away! I now know far more than I did in those long ago days of 2005 when Jo showed me a picture in her camera ("Where it all began" don't know how to link).
I can only suggest that you watch this space because there could be some weird & wonderful photos - if the gods of insects are with me this year. j
