He has a segmented body with a head, a thorax (with three pairs of jointed true legs with hooks), and an abdomen (usually with five pairs of prolegs or false legs).
The true legs are visible near the head and the first pair of stumpy false legs closer to the twig on which he is suspended.
This is a test shot with the new Pany TZ200. I've learnt that I need to work fully manual, that it prefers good light, has a slow lens and can be a bit soft when zoomed to fullest extent,, but these "deficiencies" are compensation for the heaviness of the FZ1000 which I will use for special occasions.

@koalagardens When I look back at my various careers and realise how much more satisfying studying insects is I know I made some serious mistakes but those mistakes lead me to some great pleasures so perhaps I was meant to find my fascination later in life.

@fbailey I've got several caterpillars liberated from a second source so weeks of playing with different cameras. Great fun, might even like a couple or three.

This is an absolutely awesome shot Jesika. Such amazing detail. If I could have my life over again I would definitely spend it working with wildlife conservation. Chris and I do what we can now by developing a wildlife friendly garden.
