Community Garden by kannafoot

Community Garden

The Community Land Trust was founded in 1981 and is still growing after 31 years. There are now community gardens throughout most of the inner city neighborhoods in Providence. 55 acres of land have been preserved as 35 community gardens throughout the city. As of 2011, over 750 low-income families were participating in the project.

The wall art displayed in today’s photo lines the back wall of the Brigham Street Community Garden at the corner of Westminster Street and Brigham Street in the West End of Providence. This garden is managed by the West Broadway Neighborhood Association. The art on the wall is what caught my attention in the first place, but something else struck me the more I studied it. Despite an abundance of graffiti on the remainder of the wall, the art overlooking the garden remains unblemished. The lack of desecration on that art suggests a measure of respect for the project. There are times when what is absent speaks louder than what is present, and to me, this is one of those times.

Post processing was kept to a minimum. I applied a highlight recovery filter in Topaz Adjust and then adjusted the levels a bit back in PSE. Aside from that, the photo is as shot.
Wonderful graffiti.
