Flying Machine by lauriehiggins

Flying Machine

I took this yesterday at the beach and my kids liked it best of all my photos of the day, despite the fact that it cheerfully breaks the rules by shooting into the late afternoon sun. My husband has decided he NEEDS one of these flying machines. First thing this morning he sent me a link to a website that sells them...for $8000. Hmmm...dream on.

The only photos I took today were to prove that, yes, my camera needs to go to the camera shop asap for a cleaning and some service. So the next few days are going to be either fillers or photos from my old p&s.
Cool capture. Like the composition.

Look at all the cool and interesting things you've got to photograph at the beach! Horses, clamdiggers, and this cool flying machine!

That is really spectacular. The scene is nice enough but the kite man is peachy!

Great capture and what a fun flying machine! I guess a little pricey though, unless you could work out some kind of compromise with your husband for camera equipment, lol!

Rules are made to be broken! This is wonderful! I love everything about it! It looks like fun! :o)

Wonderful capture, Laurie - $8000 - I think not! :)

Love the sense of freedom! Nicely captured.

I had to laugh about the rule which I think I break several times a week. Great photo and yeah that flying machine is priced a bit steeply. Such a carefree beautiful photo

@exposure4u Wendy, you are a genius! $8000 worth of camera equipment would be dreamy. Sadly, flying machines and sparkly new cameras are not going happen around here any time soon.

@5unflow3r That's why I love you, Trina! Your daring ways are rubbing off on me. I'm so bummed I'm going to be without my camera for the next few days...seriously, I'm already going through withdrawal.

This is lovely! There's a rule not to shoot into late afternoon sun? Hm! That's interesting. I suppose some people need to have rules like that.

Fabulous use of "negative space" with swing of machine and directionality
February 21st, 2012
Great shot! I love how the sunlight almost spotlights the subject. Very well done.
February 21st, 2012
Is that you up there! :o) I love the sky and tones! Great capture, Laurie!
February 21st, 2012
Wonderful capture, & I like the soft pastel shades of the sky

Sometimes rules are meant to be broken. Great capture.

Had to come and check out your rulebreaking shot! It obviously worked for you - this is beautiful! It reminds me of Nadine's kite surfer shots:) Fav for me.
February 21st, 2012
@pwallis How funny that we were visiting each other at the same time. I was over looking at your beautiful sparkly snow, while you were here. Thank you for the fave!
February 21st, 2012
Trading fav's, it seems:) Thank you!!
February 21st, 2012
Fav for me too. What a great silhouette!
February 21st, 2012
Ha ha! Just read Paula's comment! Maybe that's why it was an instant fav for me! :)
February 21st, 2012
@ellen Apparently I broke the white space rule too! Too funny.
February 21st, 2012
Wow- this is really neat- great image!
February 21st, 2012
This is gorgeous Laurie and perfect for the theme!! love it, the tones are awesome!!! fav!!
February 21st, 2012
I think Paula mention breaking a rule in her photo and I didn't know what rule she broke. So, I repeat, I am probably better off not knowing about the rules. Ignorance may be blissful and creative. Nice photo. I swear, this guys glide around regardless of temperature. Does this thing have a motor?
February 21st, 2012
Cool capture!
February 21st, 2012
Oh yeah, I have some of these, right into the sun but I think it makes yours very interesting. Was this Mayflower or Chapin beaches?
February 21st, 2012
It looks like a big worm. Love the pastel shades in this! Nice.
February 21st, 2012
Great shot! Rules, shmools! I think the rules were designed by people with no creativity!
February 21st, 2012
Turned out wonderful, and a great moment you caught of the gliding
February 21st, 2012
I really like this Laurie. I've been shooting a lot into the sun myself lately. Sorry about your camera, but carry you P&S around with you. :)
February 21st, 2012
Excellent shot. You do skate on the edge with the rules, but the result is awesome.
February 22nd, 2012
Right place at the right time. Nice capture
February 22nd, 2012
How cool is that?! I like the way this turned out, rules obeyed or not.
February 22nd, 2012
@cmuir1963 ditto what cindy said. hope your camera woes are looked after soon. if steve would share, maybe you should re-consider ... ;-)
February 22nd, 2012
@sailingmusic It is Linnell Landing in Brewster. It's just a few miles from my house.
February 22nd, 2012
Boys and their toys. Cool flying machine. Nice timing and capture. I must admit to being a rule breaker a lot when it comes to photography. I am forever shooting toward the sun. Gets you a lot of interesting shots. Sorry to hear about your camera.
February 22nd, 2012
Yeah, I could see that could be a lot of fun, but not at that price tag. ;-)
February 22nd, 2012
@pwallis Thank you for introducing me to Nadine! Wow, oh wow. I love her photos.
February 22nd, 2012
@lauriehiggins I can't believe you hadn't stumbled across her before! She does fabulous work, no? I just absolutely LOVE her style:)
February 22nd, 2012
You sure see some unusual things at the beach! I love how this one breaks the rules...it works!
February 22nd, 2012
Love the light tones and the wind surfer silhouette!
February 24th, 2012
