Mess kit diary

My father-in-law served in World War II and used his mess kit to record his travels in the Army. He didn't like to talk about the war but he went to reunions with his war buddies for over 50 years and counted them as some of his dearest friends.
What a wonderful keepsake!! I feel they went through too much to be able to share the horrors they faced. I was very fortunate, I had 4 Uncles went to war & all came home!!! So pleased your father-in-law came home.

touching future family heirloom ~ war was hell for so many of those who served ~ can imagine the bonds they've formed are stronger than most.

Such neat writing, even on the back of a metal pan. Ingenious way to record his travels and it's great that the kit is still in the family's possession.
