Think I need to meet a squirrel for myself. They look so cute. Are they aggressive or do they do pesky things? Sometimes cute looking animals, can be little pests.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I do appreciate them. @kristina29 We have the brown, gray, red and black squirrels here in NY.
@kchuk Elyse, they had a hard winter here in NY but there really is an abundance to eat in the woods. Especially at my house. :-) They will all need weight watchers by June.
@murnane Marg, they are very pesty. The little fox squirrel kept ripping the screen on my gazebo last year. This year he's being pretty good. I take it as just what happens when you live out in the country.
@oleary Theresa, they will go wherever they can find food. They really are rodents that will scrounge food. They love the bird feeders and I put old bread out.
i love rodents they are cute even rats lol i love them but squizzys are the best all wild animals will scrounge food so would we if we had none.... i even feed insects just to watch what they do...one of my sqyizzys was doing some wierd things on the bird feeder today....i grabbed the camera and my neighbour shouted hello to me and heran up the tree...the squirrel not the neighbour so missed my chance...THE END lol
@shenay They can be so quick to move. I take hundreds of shots and throw them out and then sometimes get one I like. This guy really didn't pose too well, but I took it anyways. It would have been better if your neighbor had run up the tree....now that would have been a great shot. :-)
I as well have never seen a black one! Its insane that you get these shots....I went up to a squirrel the other day (thinking of your shots the whole time) and it ran away before I even took the lens cap off haha! I will have to put some food in my yard! If I manage to capture one, I will dedicate it to you haha!
@semrants LOL I'll be waiting for that dedication. :-) Here's a trick Put food near one of your windows and shoot from inside until they are used to eating there. They will learn to tolerate you for the food.
@maggie2 Thanks for the tips, I doubt they would tolerate me at all, my yard is fairly small and I have a big dumb dog that likes to chase anything that steps foot in "her" yard. I could take some photos of stray cats eating turkey soup my mom leaves out for them but, they are not as nearly pretty as your squirrels :)
@semrants My dogs don't bother with the squirrels outside of their pen, but my cats do chase them. Do you think your mom will put out a bowl of turkey soup for me... :-)
He's so incredibly adorable....you are so good at capturing those one of a kind expressions. We aren't lucky enough to have the black squirrels around here...at least I've never seen one!
@cookie123 Yep there are black squirrels. Usually a little more shy than the others.
@harshbrown@bluemoon@yoelao@mimo Thanks for the kind words, I do appreciate them. @bluemoon Thank you Paula. I'm such an animal freak I spend a ton of time taking pictures of them. @rachelrae LOL Rae. Are you saying this little guy is a bit chubby? @emer I'm lucky to live in a wooded area of the country and we have deer, raccoon, fox, coyotes, rabbit, squirrels and a bunch of other animals in the area. @greenpots Cheryl, I'm just resigned to them eating the birdseed. I make them pay with photos.
Bethany, we have them around, but not as many as the grey squirrels.
@wac Wendy, he's been coming up to my feeder for a few days. He usually stays in the back. I'm thrilled. I absolutely love your pileated woodpecker shots.
What a chubby cutie! Margaret, your squirrel pictures are just the best!
