Eggs - Light Sculpting

Eggs - Light Sculpting
My get pushed challenge this week from Marta is to "choose an item (any item) and photograph it in an unusual way. You could for instance place the item in a setting where you wouldn't normally find it. Or perhaps it could be used in an unorthodox way. Or... just let your imagination run wild and have fun!!!" Last week, Lynda challenged me to "capture a subject outside using a light painting technique." Since I've been under the weather for nearly a month now, my get up and go has gotten up and gone. I never did get around to Lynda's challenge, and have just now begun to feel enough energy to play. So this photo is a combination of both challenges.

A couple weeks ago at the camera club, the speaker taught us Sculpting With Light. I've been anxious to try it out, and Lynda's challenge came at the perfect time. Except for the fact that I haven't felt good. So for Marta's challenge I took some eggs from the fridge and put them in a bed of leaves that have collected on one of the patio chairs (unusual place) and photographed them in an unusual way - with light sculpting. This is 5 photos stacked and combined in PS. This is my FIRST attempt at this technique, and my results are NOTHING like our speaker's awesome work, but I did it. And I learned a lot about masking in Photoshop along the way, which is something I needed to do anyway. There's so much wrong with this elementary attempt, including the wrong color space out of PS which leaves this photo a little colorless, but here it is nonetheless!

And it truly does look better on black.

By the way, our speaker was Harold Ross, and you can see how he does this, the RIGHT way, here:

I have to say it is rather beautiful - the eggs in the leaves is just right for your challenge and you say you use 5 photos? Must give it a go!

I love the results! The soft light makes me think of gathering eggs in the early morning. Not that I have ever done that. But I have seen it in movies. :-) Well done!

Wow a new technique to try. That is amazing. Gotta try it when I am over my year end accounting work.
