a pit stop

An industrial image for this week, it is an image taken at the Rhondda Heritage Park, situated at Lewis Merthyr Colliery, in south wales. It is well worth the visit and I would recommend taking the tour. The ex-miner who took us was absolutely brilliant, very informative and had great stories of the mine and his own life as a miner. It was not all doom and gloom.
The mine closed in 1983 after nearly one hundred years of mining, There were two mines shafts sunk (one is hidden behind the buildings). Interestingly they were called Bertie and Trefor after the owner’s sons.
The image comprises 9 pano shots as I was determined sorry obsessed to get the complete site in, including the large ventilation tower that dominates the whole site. So it was stitched in Lightroom and then messed round a bit in SilverFx to bring out the cobbles and give a turn of the last century look and feel.

Hope you like. Shady.
Worth all the effort. Absolutely magnificent image.

Fabulous! Thanks for sharing your image taking and processing.
It's hard to image the history in those mines, and in the lives of the miners and their families.
