St Chads by pattyblue

St Chads

We visited St Chads cathedral in Birmingham and had a guided tour. This is a shot of the crypt which is full of acquisitions found by Pugin the architect on his travels so it's like a massive store room. The walls of the crypt had been whitewashed at some point in the past but restorers are slowly revealing the original paintwork underneath. We plan to visit again in a couple of years to see the finished result.
Would be interesting to see the outcome in a few years.

Pity most of the churches (if not all of them) were painted over in the reformation days. I have seen a restored chapel somewhere in the midlands and it was so beautiful.

Great, atmospheric photo. Love how they've used an ornate piece of ironwork to protect the restoration, rather than a big sign.
