This photo was taken at a now vacant prison. The prison was in operation for about 100 years until the early 1970's. While it's possible to visit the old cell blocks and various community rooms inside the prison walls, today I just explored the exterior. This bleak corner with its old door and barred window caught my attention.
@jankoos Thanks for your comment, Jan. Part of the building is used for a mining and geology museum. The other part is still the penitentiary as it was. It's open for tours kind of like a mini Alcatraz. There's a sad, almost spooky feeling inside.
This is very beautiful. The stark symmetry and liens are just wonderful and I love the dribbly rust marks from the window. Ffor once I am not going to say "I wonder what this would look like in B&W?" because I think that the shades and colours are just perfect (but I do wonder what this would look like...) :o))
I've visited the botanic gardens next door, but I see from your photo that I need to check out the prison. I enjoy the shape of the shadow as well as the details of the door and window.
@rvwalker Thank you, Ross. The Old Penitentiary is an interesting place to visit and definitely a great photo crawl location. If you plan on visiting, please let me know. I would love to join you there.
@steampowered Thank you, Paul! I did switch it into B&W to see, too. It's interesting but the two different wall tones are turned into more or less the same shade of gray. I liked the color one better. Thanks for your comment and suggestion!
@pflaume I would like to do that. It won't be anytime soon because of some health problems my wife is dealing with, but I hope we can do it at some point.
Another great composition Lisa! You've got that shadow falling across the subject at just the right angle and the minimal aspect of the composition works really well with the monochromatic bent of the colors. Great shot!
