This is another photo from my photography outing yesterday. We visited an area known as the Camas Prairie, named for the camas flower which grows wild in parts of the western U.S. The camas bulbs were an important food source for the Native Americans and the prairie a rendezvous site for tribes during harvest time. It is said that before extensive tilling the entire prairie would appear as a purple lake when the camas was in full bloom.
There were large clouds overhead casting parts of the landscape in shadow when I took this shot. I liked how it created bands of light and shade.
I'm a big fan of fences, and this is a great one. I like the way it divides the light from the shadow. Beautifully composed and an interesting subject.
Great everything. What more can I say? I really like the change from shade to sunlight, the fence leading off into the distance (especially the angle of it - it's an unusual take on it, I think), the way that the fence divides the photo, everything.
so beautiful; like a painting. and you are so right about the lighting...the play of shade and light is fascinating to me. the composition is great too with that fence leading line and 2/3rds sky and the mountain swelling up on the right. i'm still jealous of your outings....i just need to move up there! fav!
Thank you all for your enthusiastic responses to this image. It is easily one of my favorite photos of my project so far. I really love it so your kind and generous comments are especially gratifying to me. Thank you for being the wonderful, supportive people that you are.
@judis Hi Judi, sorry for not responding to you sooner. How interesting that you grew up in Fairfield! It's such a pretty place. When did you move away?
