Edible? by pyrrhula

Edible?

Edible ? Yes, but the next question : by/for who ? .
Lovely shots -I think I would rather leave them for the field mice and other small animals to eat them !!

That is the question. I never know which ones are safe so just stick to the ones at the grocery store: )

I am not sure about edible. I would not pick mushrooms ever to eat, just buy at our grocery store. I grew up near San Francisco, California. My Mom still lives in the house I grew up in. She had a neighbor come by and pick and eat the mushrooms from her lawn in her front yard. I asked him how he knew that they were ok to eat and he just said he knew. Even though he ate them I would not. I love your collage of these mushrooms. They are both so very different. Amazing to me that wildlife knows what they can or cannot eat and would leave these for them or to die into the ground.

So it's time again for mushrooms. I haven't been in our forest for so long. we still have mosquitoes here and that's the reason why we haven't been there all summer. they were so bad that we had to turn around the last time we were there. I love the picture of the safe mushroom as I can see some animal took a bite of it while the other one seems to be whole. great picture, Ferry. one fav.

Well, if they were in my backyard the nibbler would have been a deer. I have also photographed them with insects apparently dining on them also. Lovely collage!

As you know we Poles love mushrooms and right now it the season for them in our forests. I will not tell if those are edible just looking at the picture. It takes time and experience to be able to recognise them. Every year at least handful of people in Poland getting sick eating the wrong ones.
