Building, the oldest parts of the Kloetingse Geerteskerk date from the 14th century. 1300 was in fact built around the choir of the church. Around 1525 the church should have got its present form. The tower was originally separate from the church.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the nave was extended to the west and connected to the tower. This tower is a Gothic structure with a pronounced influence of Brabant, built in the mid 15th century. In 1594 the tower was restored. A walled memorial reminds us here. In the tower hang three bells and the last major restoration maintenance was carried out in 2004.
Between 1970 and 1973 the church was completely restored, as in 2008.
Like Diana @snowy I also like your composition of the tree in the foreground , teasing us to see the beautiful building behind it , and again a great history write up !
I think I can see some ghosts peaking from behind that tree! I love the history that you shared with us. In the US we just don't have that kind of history. I am sure that living with it all around you would make you a history buff even if you don't mean to!
