Building Sandcastles by rosiekerr

Building Sandcastles

After all, what else do we do with ourselves? A child, creating art at the beach.

Thanks to all who care to visit and comment. I appreciate each one. :)
Wonderful capture that brings great memories of times making sand castles on the beach. Love it in B&W. Fav.

Beautiful capture:)

I love that you processed this in b&w, so the emphasis is on the girl and her castle activity. Wonderful!

Very pretty shot, love the reflection of the little girl. And b&w suits this photo very well. fav

LOVE this...a big fav!!!

A very sweet scene, and I love the reflections in the sand. It's hard to believe we're one state over and it's 17 degrees right now with a wind chill of -3 degrees.

@cejaanderson I meant to tell you... we drove down to Brownsville yesterday, just so I could see the border and the Rio Grande. If I had gotten a decent shot, I was thinking of posting it - no such luck. I did see it, though, a slice through the scrubby trees. :)

Ha! Ha! It is really a misnomer, isn't it?
December 31st, 2014
@cejaanderson Honestly, it was a scrubby little river, blocked by an enormous fence. Really... enormous. Ah, the border. ;)

Brings back memories of visiting Hilton Head Island as a kid. I could play at the beach all day. Great capture.

Nice candid with the action and the reflection

Another FAV -- I like how you photographed this in a way that makes the viewer feel they've just walked onto the scene, and the little girl so absorbed in what she is doing that she doesn't even notice. And great reflection!

Oh, and I hope I didn't already ask; how do you like your M1? Did you consider others at the time you got it? And how about the shutter sound? If someone is a few feet away would they hear it? Thanks!

Lovely b+w

@icamera I am a total fan of my M1. I did look at others, but I was in the mirrorless market because I am not a big person and didn't want to carry a ton of heavy camera gear. Very soft shutter... I don't think someone would hear it from a few feet away unless you were somewhere where silence was expected (church, museum, etc.). I also looked at other systems, but it has been a while so I don't recall what they were (maybe Sony, for the full frame?). I liked the Micro Four Thirds lens family, too. You can see what it can do in the jellyfish shot in my extras album. The viewfinder extends and goes flat, so you can easily get a low POV without laying on your tummy. :) I have been super happy with this camera and the lenses that go with it. You should try one out at your local camera store to see if the shutter sound is quiet enough for you. Good luck!

Love the lighting and reflection, beautiful capture

@rosiekerr Awesome reply, thank you so much for the info. In all my research I had not discovered the fact about the viewfinder and I can see opportunity in street photography for that (which is why I have interest in it). I do hope to try one before buying, my local camera store has one but they did not have a battery charged and were not willing to charge one so I could try it out so I left. I very much appreciate your time in replying, thank you!
