My kids and I love football, which some of you will know as soccer.
We support Southampton, because it is my home town. My 2 lads were born in East Yorkshire, and decided very wisely to follow their dad's team as that guarantees them days out for free!!
Over the years, whenever I have been away overseas on business, or holiday, I have bought them a scarf for the local team. They have a collection of about 50 scarves that are over the end of our stairs waiting to be stitched together into blankets for them.
Southampton's nickname is The Saints, because we were formed in the St. Marys area of the city. in 2001 we left our old stadium and returned to St. Marys where a new stadium had been built for us. We have coat hooks, turf and wooden seats from the old stadium in our house and garden.
My team is a big part of my life, and it is becoming the same for my lads. That makes my heart fill with pride, that I have given Sam and Ben the gift of my team, and given my team the gift of Sam and Ben's support.
Although my heart belongs to QPR, I have a soft spot for the Saints through my grandmother, born in Southampton before her parents emigrated to Australia, and a life long Saints supporter.
@lagerdalek Small world!! Your grandmother chose well. So many people tell me they have a soft spot for us!! Hope the Rs stay up and we go up to play them next season.
@lagerdalek@louisefrance@lizzy_lu123@myautofocuslife Good to know others allegiances. I went to Uni in Hull and lived there for 16 years, so have an affinity for Hull City, many friends who are Blades, have drunk myself silly before a game in The Pomona more than once, and paid kids to "Mind your car mister" at Anfield as well!!
I don;' think JC will want to talk to me about football. Born in Paddington but went for the noiser neighbour as Dad and Uncle went there in the 50's. Always think of Billy Sharp as a Scunthorpe man, he scored bucket loads there.
