Empingham Church by seanoneill

Empingham Church

Ben had a morning's watersports at Rutland Water today, which is about 30 miles from East Leake. It was pointless driving home after driving him there, so I decided to look for some photo opps in the vicinity.

This is Empingham Churchyard. Empingham is a small village near the northern shoreline of Rutland Water.

Rutland Water is a very large reservoir created by flooding an area of land 25 miles in circumference in the early 1970's. It thrives on recreational activities, you can cycle all the way around it. There are also many birdwatching hides where you can watch many species of water birds, including nesting and breeding Ospreys. I hope to return to see the Ospreys in the next few weeks.

Rutland was England's smallest county until it was abolished in 1974 under one of those pointless changes that central government impose upon us all too often that seem to achieve nothing other than wasting money for no good reason. It regained its county status again in 1997. Rutland is 17 miles by 18 miles in size, with the latin motto "Multum in Parvo" or "Much in little". It certainly is a beautiful county.

I will post a colour version in my difficult second album.

I like that! Amazing what a 10mm lens does! The b&w treatment makes it a real moody shot

Looks like you got down with the ants for this shot. Very impressive and I too prefer it to the colour one. Really liking that contrast between sunny side of the church against the darker sky.
