Grand old building, closed seven years. by seanoneill

Grand old building, closed seven years.

On the 10th January 2007, Loughborough Post Office closed, and relocated from its position on the corner of Sparrow Hill and The Coneries to a more central position in the town

More than seven years later the building remains empty and unloved. I think it is a wonderful old building. It may not be the prettiest when viewed as a whole (see link below), but I think it has a majesty to it especially when viewed in more detail.

This view is looking from the other side of The Coneries at the side of the building. I do like the symmetry and the odd window out of 8 in this shot.

This enables me to post a main album B+W shot taken on the day, and a (6)wordstory and a Loughborough Backstreets shot. I am enjoying showcasing some of the less glamorous parts of Loughborough, plenty more to come!!

What a wonderful looking building...even large. I think they need a coffee house there! Love your composition here, Sean.

What a shame it's empty, perfect composition with the symmetry.

Great photo of an interesting building.
Post Office architecture - we have a similar building in Sale now used by BT.

Great composition.

Great building. Love the symmetry, looking forward to seeing what else Loughborough has to offer!

Very imposing, I like the contrast in the different window shapes.

I like the symmetry in the photo and the one door that 'is not like all the others.'

Love it, great lines and symmetry, but it is the odd eight window that makes it.

Love this building style, which I call 1930s municipal, though I know it is wider than that. Worthing Town Hall, Worthing Post Office and West Sussex County Council were all built in the 30s and are in this what I think is this neo-Georgian style. Thank you for sharing, Sean. Super picture.

I share your enthusiasm for this building. Imagine the lovely light that must stream through those windows. Interesting picture and narrative.

A great old building, and your isolated windows with the one different door make an intriguing photo.

Love the windows and the symmetry Sean, and the quirky odd window is perfect!

I much prefer your shot Sean! I love the texture that the bricks provide and those window reps are great, especially with ash odd one out!

It certainly looks more attractive in your shot than the estate agent's version.

great looking building - has some history, no doubt

Beautiful shot.

Brilliant detail in the brickwork and, as you say, a venerable old building.

Love all the symmetry in this, cool shot.

I think it's a very handsome building Sean, I especially love the arched windows. How sad that it is sitting there empty.

Lovely shot, they certainly knew how to build building to last in those days, although this has got to be getting towards 100 years old it is still stylish.
