8-21-11 So Much for the Watch Cat

In the house, Seattle

Up early to shower and shop for food for work before breakfast with my Dad and the family and then quickly to work for a volunteer meeting. I was relaxing on the couch with a book after arriving home when I heard a noise in the kitchen. Child? No. Cat? No. I look up and staring at me is this little lady. Where is the cat? At the back door preventing her from turning around and going back the way she came.

I jump up on the couch and start hollering for the family (even at the time thinking this is fairly foolish, after all they can climb a 50 foot tree in just a few seconds, the couch isn't going to be a barrier). The family, not recognizing the tone of my voice, take their own sweet time (or maybe it just seemed that way). By the time they get upstairs she has made it to the window where she is running up the curtian. My husband goes for the broom, I go for the camera. The cat gets locked in the bedroom so he doesn't chase her the wrong way again. Down comes the squirrel, right into a child's bedroom. Doors slam shut to keep her out of other bedrooms and then suddenly she is out the backdoor again.

If you look closely you will see that this little girl is a nursing mom. And she left us little treats while up in this position. I needed to clean behind the curtains any way. And no, I'm not afraid of color, my living room really is red and gold.

edit: crop, exposure, a little cross process
Such excitement for a Sunday afternoon. This is quite a shot.

OH my! its always a disaster when animals make it into the house - a starling somehow made it into my place a year or so ago and I came back after a few days away and things that were high up were all laying on the ground! Unfortunately birds are less clever than squirrels and it couldn't work out how to get out and gave itself a heart attack and died! Great capture and great story too!!
