Move in went so unbelievably smooth! We were there at our appointed time, perfect weather, tons of older students onhand to help carry everything from the car to the dorm room. And, being a boy, there was not nearly as much "stuff" as the girls were carrying in! From the time we pulled in to the parking lot to the time everything was unpacked, put away, and set up in his room, only 1 hour had passed. Wow! I kept thinking it was too easy, that we must be missing something.
Orientation on the lawn that afternoon. Pep rally, cheering, speeches, all welcoming the new freshmen, the Class of 2019. Students, of course, NOT sitting with their parents - cut the apron strings, Moms, cut the apron strings! He was excited all day. Making connections, getting involved, making the move away from parents and towards fellow students, as it should be.
Mom behaved herself! No tears, not that there was any time for that anyway. But the paradox. Excited for him, sad for me. Joyful sorrow.
