Appleby as it should be

This is Appleby 12 days after my posting of it in flood

Still looks so wet - hope the rain stops soon!

Wow what a difference - it's good to be able to put that flood into perspective from this shot. Is the river level here still higher than usual?

That's quite a difference, Shirley.

Good to see things looking better, although I guess the same can't be said for properties.

@maggiemae It was damp but not raining heavy when I took this shot. The forecast is not good though!!

@roachling There is a big contrast in the two pictures. Yes the river is quite a bit higher than it can be.

Lovely place

Such a difference, this is much nicer :)

Much better but everywhere still looks damp! Such a pretty place Appleby is & there must be so many houses ruined.
December 17th, 2015
Nice to see that there doesn't appear to be too much damage

@gijsje This area of Appleby has always been a flood threat and indeed has done so many times.

@flowerfairyann n The white building at the end of the bridge is a shop and has lost most of it's stock. The water was more than half way up the door at the hight of the flood. Many other business and homes have also lost a lot.

@terryliv Looks much better now.
December 17th, 2015
@nadia_mt @hermann Thank you for your comments Appleby is a lovely town.
December 17th, 2015
@happypat Many houses all over the town have been flooded because the river Eden does a big loop around the town so has flooded it from different sides.
December 17th, 2015
@deborah63 There is not a lot of damage on the outside but inside the some of the shops and houses and businesses there is devastation. The main concern was for the bridge in the picture but it has been inspected and declared safe.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe the difference; so glad things are getting back normal!

It sure is good to see the water back in the banks again - what a difference! Glad to hear the bridge didn't suffer serious damage - though I can imagine the inside of those buildings.

Perfect capture of that idyllic, if wet, scene.

Nice peaceful scene.A bit of a change from the flood pic.

What a difference in 12 days, but still rain?
December 19th, 2015
Good capture, just looked at the previous one, what a difference! Taken from much the same place!

@kimdavis @milaniet @tonydebont @peterlgrave @leestevo @tosee @lavenderhouse Thank you all for your comments. The peaceful scene only lasted a few days as once more the River Eden burst it's banks yesterday and again the some of the houses and businesses were underwater. The water was no where near the levels of the 5th but the mud and sludge was still there.
