"Live from New York.....It's Saturday Night Live!"
This is the entrance to NBC Studios at 30 Rock, where SNL, David Letterman, NBC News and countless other television shows are filmed. There is also an observation deck at the "Top of the Rock", 70 stories high, that offers views that rival those from the Empire State Building. And last but not least, this was the home to the iconic Rainbow Room nightclub/restaurant. Hopefully the Rainbow Room will reopen soon.
Best seen large if you have the time...
After taking this image, I took the subway back to my son's office and we had a couple of slices of real New York pizza before I left. Gridlock was so bad in Midtown (due to the parade) that pedestrians were moving much faster than cabs. So I took the subway up to 96th street and caught a cab to the airport there. You always have to be thinking when in the city!
This is the last image I took in Manhattan and concludes my "6 hours in Manhattan" series. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did showing it to you. Tomorrow I will start a classic car series as I recently attended another great car show.
lovely capture of an iconic sign. We went up the rock last time we were in Manhattan - I think the views are superb from there and would definitely choose it again over the Empire State Building (lift is a little freaky though !!!)
Thanks for the short tour of the Big Apple Danny!! When I was stationed in Massachusetts a friend of mine, from New York, promised he take me there so I could see the sights and particularly Yankee Stadium. It never happened though. I had the misfortune to drive on the Bronx Parkway a couple of times which left me with some hair-raising stories to tell.
@seanoneill Thanks, Sean - I am glad you enjoyed the series! @stuckinoz Thanks, Janelle - it was an action packed 6 hours! @skipt07 Glad you enjoyed it, Skip - driving in the Bronx can be hazardous to your health, both physical and mental (I was born and raised there) @rachelmackenzie Thanks, Rachel - glad you have enjoyed the series! @jgilker Thank you Jessika, I am happy you enjoyed the NYC series. It was a fun one to shoot! @fueast Thanks, Alison - I was really on the go for those 6 hours, hardly ever stopped except to shoot or eat!
Great shot of the sign. I've enjoyed your pic of the city. I know I have to get there someday before I'm too old to enjoy it, and walk around the city.
Your son?! Funny the impressions you make of people you only "know" online. Would not have thought you old enough to have a son with an office! Anyway, great series. NYC is one of my favorite cities ive visited.
@jackie8 Glad you have enjoyed it, Jackie! @franklein Thanks, Frances - go and see it, just wear running shoes as the amount of walking you will do is incredible! @cmc1200 Thanks, Caryn - you have made my day! I'm 54 and my son is 23. @jdr4690 Thanks, Rob!
What a fabulous tour you are having. I didn't know the Rainbow Room was closed. I have their recipe for stuffing and it is the best! I love this iconic retro sign....fabulous shot, Danny! I went to a show here many years ago --- a quiz show but can't remember which one ;-)
