The railroad tracks that run behind Sanford Stadium have a very interesting history: until the end of the era of rail travel, executives of the Central of Georgia Railway Co. would park the company president's luxury office rail car on these tracks for an excellent view of the game. With food served on china by white-coated porters to the Central of Georgia executives and their guests, the rail car "Atlanta" could be considered Sanford Stadium's original luxury skybox.
In the 1970s, fans began watching Georgia Bulldog home games from these same tracks. A lot of partying went on here during home games and watching the "Dawgs" from the tracks became a 70's tradition. Unfortunately, the 1981 expansion enclosing the east end of the Stadium eliminated the view of the field from the tracks and ended this tradition.
Railroad tracks are fascinating! Of course, we have many running through the state of SC, and I always wonder what it would be like to just hop a train and ride! Beautiful composition with a great backstory to top it off!
I'm a fan of strong perspectives and eye leading lines, very well executed. Thanks for the interesting background story. Is this an HDR image? The stones in the foreground are wonderfully rich in detail.
@zoo_m Thanks, Jens. This is not an HDR image.
