Turns out street photography is really difficult and requires time and lots of it. I was totally out of my comfort zone.
I like the placing of the man.........thats about it.
Yes indeed, street photography is something that would totally be out of my comfort zone too. It´s kind of interesting how he looks like he would have been added to this pic afterwards if you look at the wall behind him, itriguing!
I think this shot is really cool!! I love the background too. Despite my stalker reputation I know what you mean. I feel so awkward taking pictures of strangers out in public. :P
I think overtime you become more confident taking photos of strangers. Most of the time if they catch you they won't confront you or if they do it will be more out of curiosity rather than anger. Either way this image turned out really well and I like the brickwork in B&W
I like the placing of the man too. I also like the movement. I find street photography really difficult, I tend to resort to long exposures with my camera on a table or similar. Need to get braver.
i think its a great shot nice composition - and fair play for shooting outside of your comfort zone - for me street photography is a real 'mare - so i know what you mean.
I give you kudos for trying it.....my couple of attempts haven't been that great, whereas I like the composition, and it's different, in a good way :-)
@kali66 Yes the advice is great - as ever very encouraging. It is also reassuring to hear that people who make photography look so easy have their own insecurities.
I can totally relate to your fear - up here in a small community everyone knows you and most folk are inclined to hide when they see a camera. I certainly do. I think you got a great composition with this and it looks brilliant in b&w
It is funny how some aspects of photography are totally uncomfortable. A particular genre either "fits" or it doesn't. I agree that street photography, for me, just doesn't feel right. I can spend hours looking at other peoples photos, however, I always feel like I'm doing something wrong (not photographically, but in the act of shooting). Either way, I think this came out nice. The movement is lovely. Will this be something you try more often in the future?
@stillcrappysailor I agree with your viewpoint about the "fit" of the style. I do want to pursue this type of photography but a little voice in my head keeps asking why. Why take photo's of people I do not know? I think for me I have to have a purpose and that is one reason why I find this type of photography so difficult. It is also very time consuming being an observer. I want to do things.
@spanner - could not have said it better. I am drawn to street photos as a viewer. But I never quite feel like a participant when I'm out shooting on my own.
