A lone male Australian King Parrot lit by the rising sun.
Viewed front on he appears as an entirely different bird. Front on, the brilliant scarlet of his head extends right down to the base of his dark green tail feathers. The female is nowhere near as glowing. Her head and chest are light green. Tthe scarlet of her lower body is not as brilliant as the male and there is no stripe on her wings.
They feed in large groups. Up at the school where camphor laurel trees grow I've seen flocks of up to forty or more birds down on the ground feeding on the fallen seeds.
By his call, a long, plaintive, piping whistle, he may have become separated from his flock and been searching for them.
You do have some amazing birds around you. The green on his back seems almost florescent. I'd love to see a picture of your barn. Thanks for commenting on mine.
There are a few that I have seen late in the evening or early morning about a km from here, was thinking of going down there late one evening with my camera. You were lucky he was out of the branches enough to get a good view.

I hope he finds his flock again.
