After spending the entire day at home yesterday, due to a storm that dumped 18 inches of snow on Chicago, today was a cold but sunny day so I headed to the lakefront. Took a ton of shots none of them really fitted the 'Flash o Red February' theme for the week of shape and form, but I am posting them anyway. I am also tagging them for the F word challenge, as Freezing!
All of the white behind the fence is Lake Michigan, the water is not frozen solid, if you stop and watch it you can see the movement of the water beneath pushing the lumps of ice to and fro.
I am exhausted right now, it has been a long day. I have quickly processed a couple of shots for tonight. Tomorrow I am determined to catch up with commenting. Thank you everyone for all of your wonderful comments on my spoons shot yesterday.
Andrea this is a great shot for Flash of Red! It fits Gibson's description of simplicity within a shot and you've composed it perfectly. Don't be so hard on yourself! Some of the books we've done in the past have been more structured while Gibson's book is less, so that may be causing some confusion for you- that is to say there are no specific directions for each week rather a broader range of suggestions. So don't worry about that. If anything, one could take an entire month just learning how to see in black and white without looking at the components of a good b/w shot. Once again, I think this is an excellent shot- especially in black and white, and for me, it's a fav!
this is perfect for the theme. and i am so taken by this photo, i can relate to it. i live near what we call the beaches and there's a place i go to that is similar to this overlooking lake ontario. it is rather eerie seeing the thick ice on top move when the wave underneath it hits the shoreline. i feel giddy and dizzy all at once expecting something supernatural would emerge from it. and it has a certain sound that all the more makes the sight so scary. the first time i've seen that, i dipped my boot and my husband castigated me for doing so. nature is so fascinating but one wouldn't want to challenge her.
