In the late 1990s, one of my ESL students was a young man named Slavik, who had recently arrived from Ukraine. At the end of our program, he held an exhibit of his photographs from his earlier travels. (Those were the days of developing film.) I bought a couple of them, but this one especially captivated me. He called it "Good Morning, India!" I have it hanging in our dining room, and I see it at every meal (including breakfast). Today, when I was looking at it, I thought of Slavik and his homeland. I wonder where he is and how he is doing. The last I knew, he had moved to England. But these days, one wonders.
Such a beautiful portrait and a wonderful story. I sure hope that he and his family are safe! I believe that many Ukrainians have gone back home to fight for their country. So horrific that nobody can stop a mad man.
A touching story and what a fantastic photograph of this beautiful child! Slavic did captured that perfect look for a powerful portrait.
Hopefully this war will somehow come to an end soon, cause it's terrible.
Nice tribute to Slavik and everybody in the region. It is not good what is happening there.
