Lunenburg's own "Trot in Time Buggy Rides"
I was sitting at my computer by the front window this morning when I spotted the carriage stopped at the corner of the park, and I knew the driver was describing "The Lunenburg Bump on the Purple House". The tour comes down the street and turns down the street behind our house, so I grabbed my camera and made a mad dash out the back door, not even stopping to put my shoes on! I got there so fast, there was still no carriage in sight!
I walked to the corner and waited for them to come down the street, and right here in my picture, I started shooting. To my surprise, the driver began to sing (very well, indeed!),
"They're gonna put me in the movies
They're gonna make a big star out of me
We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely
And all I gotta do is act naturally..."
Well, I was delighted...and amazed! He stopped the buggy while he finished singing, and then asked when I'd like for him to start up again! I repositioned myself, and he came around the corner, and I got some more terrific pictures of the carriage and the horse, Ricky...blog...
http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/984 Well, I was so surprised that he had passangers, but was interested to know if we lived in the purple house, where we were from, and all that. Turned out, he's Basil, the owner of all the buggy ride venue, and his passengers were two trainees for the summer tours. Usually the drivers are dressed up in black vests over a white shirt and wear top hats. Today he had lots of time to stop and visit!
FYI, a bit of interesting news arrived in our mailbox today. The town is so often used for a movie set (last year two shoots were for the upcoming movies, "Moby Dick" and "Jesse Stone", not counting commercials...) They wanted us to know there'll be movie people here for filming the fourth episode of "Haven", a t.v. series. Haven't heard of it. They let us know where trucks and equipment will be throughout the stay, and often you'll find people gathered and looking on. Last fall there were several trucks parked across the street and many people involved in filming right out in the park. Yes, I was taking pictures of them from my front window :-) Maybe I can find one of those and put it on my blog tomorrow... To think I left Southern California to be in the middle of the movie business up here!
AND check this out!
http://365project.org/stownsend/travels/2010-05-21 Suzie put up a picture of Lunenburg's waterfront. She told me the other day she was going to be posting pictures from here, too. And to think they call this a "small town"!
The carriage is gorgeous! I hope the old will never completely give way to the new, and we'll be able to enjoy sights like that for days to come! Basil sounds like a nice guy, serenading you like that ;-)) Who knows, maybe he and the famous "Lunenburg Bump" will be in the next episode of "Haven" ;-))
They're gonna make a big star out of me...." I kid you not...now how freaky is that? I hadn't heard that song in years...LOL.
Thanks for suggesting I ask Jodie about my photo, she was very helpful! :)
Ditto to Brenda's comment - I love that clop clop clop sound!
I thought I should elaborate on the fish photo, since you asked whether they are as amused by us as we are by them. Well these particular fish tend to follow people as we walk past. It is pretty funny, and I wonder if they follow us because they're interested in this big new moving blob that has entered their distant surroundings, or because they're just bored... I guess I'd be bored too, haha. :D
Great photograph, and I really like the driver, what a man! Its really got to me this project, get to chat to all sorts when they see the camera, tops!
Looking forward to hearing about the new Haven stars turning up!
