What a wonderfully relaxing day I had! I never left the house!
B&D came by in the morning so we had company for a short while, but most of the day I was sorting through all the pictures I took while our friends were here. No one brought a camera as they wanted me to take all the pictures; I'm working on getting them sent in a timely manner!
I also had a flattering request today. One of the town's best caterers called to ask if I'd make my apple cake for a group she's serving next week, and is going to pay me quite nicely for it. I've made that cake at least 8 times this summer and everyone seems to love it, so, *wow*!
With bouquets of roses to photograph, I kept to Loni's theme again today. I was so pleased with the close-ups I was able to take with the P&S. This was taken after dinner by the light in the dining room. I did little to check the levels, and beyond that, it's SOOC.

What gorgeous roses! It's amazing what you can do with a p&s.
Thanks for your comment on my fire photo. I really would have kicked myself if I hadn't had a camera with me. I don't even know what possessed me to bring it... it was in my car, which wasn't on my way out, and I almost NEVER bring a camera when I'm just running to Target since it's so close. I'm glad Bill had a good birthday, and I'm glad that you had a chance to take it easy and work on your photos today!
Absolutely beautiful!! We made apple crisp for dessert, but your cake sounds really tempting!! It must be beyond delicious if you are getting so many requests for it! ;-) Good night, dear friend! ;-))
Those roses look as though they're made out of silk. So beautiful. Guess I'm going to have to make that cake pretty soon - it must be fabulous! Good for you making some money for your baking!
Thank you so much for the recipe, Louise!! The "apple dapple" cake looks so tempting! I'll definitely try to make it! You are right, I try to eat healthy most of the time, but when it comes to desserts I don't spare the butter and sugar! It's not the same without them, and life is better when it's sweeter! ;-))
lovely picture of the white roses...
thank you for your comment of my holiday picture in Ubud..you are right, I and my family had fond memories of the place...
Oh, I'm so glad you posted a shot of "Ringo's" roses in their new home. They're just beautiful! Nice to hear you got to mellow out a bit, too. I've got tons of pics to sort through from our friends' visit on the 4th and it seems that no one else took any pics, so like you, I am having to post them everywhere now. Tough to be the "family" historian sometimes, isn't it? Ha!
Oh, and congrats on your apple cake request. You are one talented lady!!
Barbie houses ARE architecture, right? LOL Yes, I will do that theme, but I think it'll have to wait for when I have time to go find some interesting houses. I live in suburbia, where I am surrounded by sameness. That being said, there are some old houses downtown...must get there to shoot them. Hmmm, maybe sunday! If I can get the kids to agree. THAT will be the difficult part. Oh, or maybe monday, on my lunch break!
Thanks for yourcomment about Billy's doppleganger, Ringo Starr! It's brilliant that he also plays drums too! He's also a very talented gardener. Glad you had a rest today & congratulatios rhat your apple cake is so in demand! Iam lucky to live in London & to have amazing photo opportunities, but I live & work outside the centre where there's less interesting buildings. So when I do go into central London I usuallly grab the photo opp! Enjoy your weekend! : )
those roses are exquisite an such a peaceful, gentle photo of them. Congratulations on the apple cake request! Did someone say you'd shared the recipe?
A question about the apple dapple cake recipe ... do you use fresh apple or canned pie apple? ... We are having a miserable, rainy day and I think it will make a glorious afternoon tea treat!
your roses are just beautiful. have you got a recipe for your cake?
glad you enjoyed some time to yourself after all the company...i'm looking forward to being home again although we really liked being part of the family here. it's hard to see good bye tomorrow. after last night's bowling we had a Good Bye dinner on the terrace of a local restaurant so most of the family ( 18 showed up) have said their good byes already.
For the ones of you above who asked for the apple cake recipe, here it is in two parts (made with fresh chopped cooking apples, Eleanor). Don't miss the second part with the boiled brown sugar-butter-milk topping!) There's also a picture of the finished cake in there http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/1130
Louise, THank you for the comment on my erie canal photo.... Yes I was very thrilled to find that location. Rest assured I WILL visit that spot again, next time armed with bug spray though. that location is actually a wide waters section of the canal so it looks like a big pond, there are plenty of other vantage points for me to shoot from.
Two things ... First, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the cake recipe. I'm not much of a cook (tend to cook the same things over and over again), so having something new, tried and true, will be a treat! (In your picture, it look like you pour the icing on AFTER you take it out of the pan. Or does it just ooze icing after you remove it from the cake tube?) Second, the Maui Craft Guild still lives, although they just moved into a different location (same side of street - 2 or 3 buildings closer to town) last year. So, good news, they seem to be doing fine without you, although I'm sure they wouldn't mind seeing you again! LOL!
Soooo beautiful I love white roses. The contrast with those deep green leaves is stunning! Congratulations on becoming a professional baker! I am going to look up the recipe as well!
Your white roses really very beautiful. But...I'm very interested in you cake:) Please let me know how much is a cup. Is it like one desiliter? And is tsp = tea spoon? And a stick of margarin? Like 100 grams or..?I really need that cake. Thanks for sharing the recipe Louise.
So lovely and delicate.
Peaceful...and beautiful...what a lovely representation of your day!
AND...you get to add baker/caterer to your impressive repertoire of talents!
Bonus!

With as active as you have been since arriving in Lunenberg I think you definitely deserved a day in! Nice closeup - the softness of the roses really comes through in the shot.
thank you so much for posting this on my dedication thread...I've just noticed you've followed me for ages and I missed it somehow...my loss and I'm sorry but I'm following you now :)
