Driving into Mahone Bay today, what a treat we had! A car club from Ontario was in town with 27 of these vintage beauties, and they were so suited to this old town, settled in 1754. I photographed several, but chose this one as I'd struck up a conversation with the owner who's in the process of restoring this Model T.
I looked up songs that were popular at this time, and thought the player piano in the background might have been what you'd have heard as you walked down the street. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDuOazhUE0Y My favorite music goes back a few years, and I could have been happy living back in this era.
How cool to just happen upon the car club. I LOVE old cars like this! The way you shot it, along with the tone, give this a wonderful old-time feel. Beautifully done!
it's so fun to find sisters you never knew you had!!
and no, i only just found out today that joanne is a kappa. she went to umass amherst, and i went to oklahoma state. how about you?
and i follow both your girls--that's so exciting!!
boy, is THIS a blast from my past! my dad restored antique cars and we had a Model-T (not to mention the '11 Opal, Regal, '09 International Harvester, '37 Packard ...)! Thanks for the memory ... love the B&W treatment!
i wish i still had that issue of the key!! i am still in touch with many of the girls i lived with at osu--and facebook has helped reconnect with some as well. and so true, once a kappa always a kappa! (:
Nice shot Louise. These old Model T's amaze me. Guess I'll stop complaining about how hard it is for to get parts for my 1964 truck! :). Oh, and I was certain you were going to say you all got rides to a local pub or something cool like that!
It's a shame that we can't hear some of the songs that we pick out for comments on our photos, when we view the photos. Your choice of music is perfect for this photo. I have copied some family photos from the past and this does look like it could almost be that old. Great photo.
The processing matches the subject perfectly, and thanks for the cool link to the piano music. My taste in player rolls leans a little more toward Conlon Nancarrow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubepzLKAcCo , it's good noisy fun, but more of a challenge to dance to. And here's the website of our friend who is teaching Carly how to sew: http://www.wendyanne.com .
Thanks for the comments on my photos.
My name is properly pronounced as Lum (sounds like plum) - Meez (sounds like ease or cheese) most people usually just say Le - meez...
my younger brother calls me measels lol (even though i never even had measels yet) and grew up with the nickname of meezie (which is not used often anymore)
What a great photo of a lovely old car.
I visited the site you put up & ang along with the pianola - just wonderful!
We used to have one in an old house we rented when we were first married - I just loved to play it - thanks for that Louise - bought back wonderful memories of a forgotten era :D
This is wonderful. And the black and white is so much more effective than using color here. Last summer I had the opportunity to spend 4 days with a Model T Club that was having a function in my area. Those people wore me totally out! I spent more of the last day, which was a Sunday, "resting" after they left. The cars were incredible and the functions were just a ball! A lot of them dressed in the proper attire. Loved it. Your photo reminded me of the fun we had.
PS - I, too, would have loved to have been around in this era. And - have you ever been to the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard? We just went, and I recommend it! I recently posted a tilt-shift album in my shutterfly which included some of Todd's shots from there (at the end). http://doublee.shutterfly.com/pictures/343
Great shot! I would love to go back to this time but only for a day or so. I would miss too much from the now. I guess I'm just as spoiled as the boys...lol.
You are right, Louise, we should enjoy the summer while it lasts! I love raspberries! I don't blame you for leaving none for desserts - I would have done the same ;-)) Just finish them off! My granny makes the best raspberry jam - mmm...my favorite on crepes!
The hostas are really beautiful - I am impressed how big they get and how lovely the flowers smell! I'll probably plant some in our new house - those are from my mother-in-law's flower beds. I am hoping that by August 12 (my birthday) we'll have moved in already! ;-) And when the house is done, we'll have to start planning a trip somewhere...it's been almost six months since I've been on a plane, and i am ready to fly again ;-))
The processing for this shot is perfect! I love the look of these old cars, great shot!
Re: your comment on my powerline shot, I do know which you are talking about. I love the twilight zone! I am too young to have seen the originals in their time, but I still watch them on DVD from time to time =)
Louise, I'll definitely be posting house photos soon! I just want to wait for the finished product! ;-) We only need carpet in the bedrooms, and the plumbing fixtures installed, and we are good to go! That will definitely make for a wonderful birthday present!
Bulgaria sure is first on my list, but I'd also love to go to South America - Brazil, or Peru (after seeing Joji's photos, I am really thinking about Peru). It all looks so exotic and out of this world! There's many places in Europe I still haven't seen, too. In the US I'd love to visit the top right and left corners (Vicky's sunset pictures are so amazing!). I wouldn't mind to walk aroun Lunenburg one day, too! So many places, and so little time! Luckily, Jeremy loves travelling, too, so I know he'll take me where I want to go ;-)) Hav eyou seen "UP" (the movie) - if not, you have to! ;-)
Beautiful! :) .. Used to have a car club that met at a mall near where I used to live every Friday night and there were several of this vintage on display ... I too would have been perfectly at home in this time period (I sometimes feel quite lost in this one :">
Louise, I am sooooooobehind on my comments :o(-------it has been a little hectic around my house. I love this photo. The car is beautiful and I'm sure the rest of the cars were impressive too. Was it a car club? My husband is a car fanatic and drives a 1970 Porsche for fun. He belongs to a vintage car club and the tour together sometimes. He also races the old thing, her name is Goldie, and loves it. It really is a cool car. In answer to your question about my upcoming empty nest, I don't know what I'm going to do. I am trying to stay focused on how exciting this is for Hannah and not on how hard it will be for me. I only want her to be happy and safe. If I know that to be true, I can handle whatever her launching from the nest brings! Thanks for asking, it is an intense time as we ready for her move :o)
I'm also very behind in my comments. I love this shot. My grandpa and grandma had a model T. My mom always told me how proud he was of it being a poor farmer in Nebraska. Not many people in their little town had a car so they were hot stuff... :-) Just like you, Louise. hehe Good Night. I'm done for the night.
and guess what? joanne just told me that you were a kappa--we're sisters!! (:
