I've got a new BFF! And before I go farther, her name's Eva, (not spelled "Ava" as it sounds), and she turned 10 last March 1st. She and her entourage arrived on the doorstep at 10:30 this morning with all the makings for a brunch. I confess that I harbored concerns that this all could go awry, but I couldn't have been more wrong! A few of us had mini-assignments...Ken fixed the bacon in the microwave and 7 y-o brother, John, broke the eggs into the bowl and whisked them (with a little assistance). He even helped stir them on the stove. But Eva heated the skillet and proceeded to make every single blueberry pancake herself...perfectly! I asked her how long she's been cooking and she said she'd begun when she was seven. I took pictures at all the stages, and I found she was interested in my photography...really! She's got a camera of her own, and after breakfast she actually asked me if I had a web site for my pictures and could she see it!!! She wanted to know if it would cost anything to sign up, and she asked her mother if she could "have an account for Christmas"! I told her about some of the other young photographers on 365, so when she gets her account, I'll ask you to make her welcome!
It's fair to say that this was a wonderful brunch with delicious food and interesting and animated conversation; I hated for it to come to an end. We'd said good-bye so the family could take a walk through town, but it wasn't long before there was a knock at the door. There was my new friend who'd so thoughtfully (hand) printed out the recipe for her buttermilk pancakes, and she'd drawn a lovely thank-you note for me and Ken. It really should have been me writing that "Thank You"!
Awww, this is so sweet! What a great photo! I'm very impressed that she is making pancakes for everyone already! What a nice breakfast bunch you had there!
When she gets an account you be sure to let us know! I'd love to follow her!
Thanks for the late night food picture, now I'm hungry LOL.
Kudos to her parents! She sounds like a proper little lady (with the thank you note and the recipe) as well as a independent thinker. I look forward to seeing her photos.
What a great group portrait. And the brunch like mouth-watering. You do meet the most interesting people--all ages and all different gifts. I'd love to see some other pictures from this day.
this is one of my favorite of your 'breakfast' stories/photos!! i can't believe the spunk of your new friend!! she sounds like a great gal, and what a super chef!! what a wonderful morning. i just love it. love it!!
Aw - she sounds awesome. A hand-written recipe card! She looks very sweet, and her little brother has a cute little expression. Nice photo! And hey - I see a pic on the wall with a red house just jumping out of it! (red theme - I'm seeing red everywhere)
I noticed the squirrel photos have taken a back seat in your project for now, but I saw a cute one today and thought of you :-) http://365project.org/jennarichards/365
And in case you missed my note - thanks so much for telling me about the Popular Page and for your comments and wonderful welcome to 365. It's a lovely place to be!
Louise ~ I just love your description of this morning's events, I feel almost as if you gave me a bit of one of your blueberry pancakes. Please be sure to let us know when she joins, as I would love to follow her project! Great shot & another wonderful story!

That looks so incredibly good...I had frosted mini wheats for dinner...not so good. Maybe Eva could come down here and cook us up some pancakes. Such cute kids!
What a wonderful story - and I love it more because of her name. Mine is pronounced Eeeva but one friend always calls me Ava so I answer to both - and my husband is Ken!
You know with all the cooking that goes on here, we could produce a 365 recipe book with photos of said dish and the folk who make them. We'd have such a global array of stuff! It would be good for someone like me who has difficulty opening a tin of beans LOL! This of course would be book 2, after the 365 pets and animals of the world! :-)
What a wonderful photo!
Those pancake look so delicious - my son made some for us recently & I forgot how good they taste.
What a wonderful visit :D
Hi Louise! Riley is very sick with chickenpox - he has a pretty good dose & has not been well at all. My parcel boosted her spirits really well. I spoke with her this evening - poor darling. I said to her that this time in three weeks she woud be all well again, that boosted her mood :D Thanks for thinking of her.
Re: quilt photo-Thanks so much! Now how did you know it was Doodle? It is my Doodle picture LOL. She hasn't given me official word to publish yet until the quilt goes to the show she isn't supposed to release photos. If you send me your email addy I'd be more than happy to share it with you. My email is on my profile page. And thank you as always for your wonderful comments!
Louise... you are so full of life and your love comes through all your pictures and comments... you are a wonderful person to know thru this project...lucky are the people you are close to you...
great shot...
Wow. What a story, Louise. Your new friend sounds so mature for her age. One day she may be the new Rachel Ray, with many people watching her prepare her meals! I love how she came back and knocked on the door to give you her recipe. And how she asked about your photography. I think this young lady is going to go far in life.
Sounds like you all had a great breakfast together, it good when the children take an interest in cooking at an early age ,The food looks yummy.(thank you for the birthday greeting)
What a wonderful breakfast! I'm so glad it worked out well and that Eva seems to have had everything under control. How thoughtful of her to bring over the recipe and thank you and Ken, even though she did the work!
Love this story and the pic! Too funny that Kay said she had mini-wheats for dinner last night. I just had those for breakfast and now this sumptuous banquet of bacon, eggs and pancakes is looking soooooo goooood! I'm so impressed, too, at her skills, Oh, that I would have started cooking at such an early age. I'm sure that I would be eating much better today because of it. :-)
How amazing to have such a wonderful young cook come and make you brunch. She sounds like a very special girl. Definitely a good thing for kids to start cooking early; even more so for boys, I think. I've been training my two up for years! Thank you for your lovely comments - I enjoy writing the captions as much as taking the photos!
What a heartwarming story and I love the photo you've chosen to post to illustrate it. Eva sounds like such a delightful and talented little girl! You will definitely have to let us know when she joins.
This is such a happy shot! And what an amazing little girl!!! Thank you so much for your kind comments, I really am finding shorter hair an awful lot easier!!!
Oh, Louise, it sounds like the most perfect day!!! Eva is a real treasure!! I can tell by the looks on everyone's face that the breakfast was a delight! ;-)) I enjoyed reading your commentary - your home is a place of so many wonderful gatherings! ;-)
When she gets an account you be sure to let us know! I'd love to follow her!
