I'll bet if you had to guess how I spent my afternoon today, you wouldn't come up with the answer for want of trying! I spent it at the Funeral Home! When we visited our friend, Mike, last weekend, he told us to come by to see everyone and have a cup of coffee. (He's the funeral director in town, and we're also friends with the rest of the small staff http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-05-15 and http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-05-24 ) We hadn't seen them frequently because it's been a busy summer, if you know what I mean.
This morning Mike called Ken to ask for his help with a computer problem; he went over, staying until a service was about to begin. Mike asked him to return afterward, so I went along. We found everyone about to straighten up after one service to get ready for the next in the late afternoon. I pitched in to help, setting up chairs, emptying the dishwasher, and taking down family photos to set up for the next service. When done, we got coffee and visited briefly. Mike asked me to take a head-shot of Vivian, who's one of the ministers, to put with the portraits I took of everyone else last year. Camera in hand, I seized the opportunity to get a group photo and came home, sure I had my picture to illustrate the day. But tonight, when I looked through what I'd taken, there was the off-handed snapshot I took as we arrived home... For what it shows of the beautiful afternoon, our neighborhood, the horse carriage passing by and the loving reception we received, it became my SOOC choice for the day. I hope no one was anticipating their Funeral Home debut!
This sure is a beautiful shot! Wow! I think this PERFECTLY captures the day, if you ask me! :-) Glad you were so prepared with that camera for the group photo! That's a 365er for ya! :-)
Another interesting story about a day filled with excitement and friends. Great shot! Love when you look back on your pics and find a jewel in the bunch!
Fabulous choice, Louise! I absolutely love the quaintness (is that a word?) of this shot. The horse drawn carriage is so wonderful! And then of course there is Dill, who makes the photo so very special. I love that church steeple back there too! Wonderful shot to represent your day.
Love your neighborhood Louise! So peaceful, and I can just hear Dill greeting you with his "Meoooow"s ;) I'm glad you chose this photo - its quite lovely :)
O K I was kind of hoping for a funeral home shot, but I love seeing Dill so I was happy anyway. What a great street shot!!!
Re seagulls: I did have a friend throwing some small pieces of bread up in the air to encourage some of the gulls to fly up. It only took 1 piece of bread and 24 shots to get the photo I wanted.
You like to peek into my world and I like to peek into yours:) This is such a calming view. Though I love busy city life I also love peaceful surroundings. And Dill!

Btw, Kirsi is a short version of kirsikka which means cherry.
The end of another great day... what could be better than that particular shot? Funeral homes you can get any day .... a quiet moment with your favourite Dill coming to greet you ... that's special!
This is just fabulous! Your neighborhood is absolutely adorable. I love the horse drawn carriage and the church, and your furry welcoming committee is just too much!
What a busy street! Dill going one way, the horse (and all that's following him) going the other way! Great view of the street,to me this looks so nice and foreign!!Love the way Dill comes down the street to say hello, isn't that just the warmest welcome one could wish for?
Love the welcoming committee! I think shots like this that truly seize a moment in time will prove to be cherished in the years to come. As much as I love this shot (a fav), it would have been interesting to get a shot from the funeral home. So when Mike called Ken, did it start with: "Hi Ken, it's Mike. Do you have time to swing by the funeral home? My computer is dead." :)
It's amazing to hear about the life outside of funeral home services. It's definitely an aspect that people don't normally think about when they're visiting. Thanks for sharing.
I had to fav this one. It combines many ofl the wonderful things we have come to enjoy about your summer life. I especially like Dill's confident independence as he welcomes you. I know you will miss all your friends when you leave but i think Dill holds a special place in your heart.
I love this shot! It captures such an every-day "truth" somehow... Very nice! (and I remember the heron/turtle pic... a bit hard to swallow if you ask me! -- ;-)
Very nice shot. So much to see in one photo. Dill, carriage, steeple, shadow, clouds. Very nice.
As to my valve pic, it was very astute of you to remember my forays into my basement for the alphabet pics. Still four months to go so you may see more.
oh this is fabulous! i love dill wandering down the street--which is so picturesque! and that carriage is just perfect; of course they have horse-drawn carriages in lunenburg!! (:
(although i have to admit i was a little nervous when you began your description of your day--glad you were at the funeral home to visit a living friend!)
gotta tell you I laughed and laughed out loud when I read your comment on my picture of Sally. I have the best image of you in my mind jumping for joy now! Love this photo. The composition is perfect with the horse carriage in the upper right and Dill in the lower left. nicely balanced
This is just a wonderful photo...another illustration of the beauty of your summer hometown...Not sure if we told you yet, but Cindy and I rented Simon Birch, the movie and cried our eyes out at the ending...I think we cried for all the sadness in the world...you owe us a box of kleenex...
I love this shot, it's so summery and peaceful, especially with the kitty :)
And thanks for your comment! I often get very confused between the US and UK education systems xD in the UK we have to choose a tiny range of subjects very early on! (4 at 16!!!...and if you do all the sciences that counts as 3!) which I've found very frustrating :P but hopefully it'll be a nice kind of different next year! Also, in regards to my photo, I hadn't even realised the link between 'new look' and my new look before people started commenting xD I love it when that happens :)
What else can I say? I must admit I secretly hoped for a funeral home shot!:-) But Dill in his home town is great! he is really going to miss you.... and yes I tried the scrolling down with the rain drop....you're right! An action drop shot!!
Oh, this is SUCH a great shot...with Dill, and then the buggy in the background! LOVE it so much!
On another note...have been MASSIVELY busy/sick...I just haven't had a moment to upload my photos properly, and I think I may have to wait to catch up.
I've been trying to get back to you...so much I want to say/tell you....but it seems when I do have a moment, the head/eyes won't co-operate.
Anyway...this is another crazy busy weekend, as it's our anniversay celebrations. Big family BBQ tonight, we'll be away Sunday and Monday, as we're staying downtown...the kids bought us Cirque de Soleil tickets for tomorrow, then dinner, and celebrating continues Monday culminating in dinner again that night. And we're trying to catch up on all of errands that I miss when I'm going so well.
ACKKK! The wedding is 45 days away...still so much to do there, as well. Starting to panic a little...but in an excited way. What about you, Grandma?? ;-)
This is probably way too long now...but didn't want to let another day go by, before talking to you.
Think about you all of the time...but just noted that I missed your birthday!!!! ACKKKK! SO sorry again!
Hope you had a fantastic day! I'll try to get caught up and back to you soon! Love to all of your boys! And give yourself a hug, too! XO
Have to go phone my mom, now. I think she thinks I've died!
I love the whole feeling of this shot. It draws me in and reminds me of days while I'm on vacation. All those little details and the beautiful sky above, *sigh*, I LOVE it! Your neighborhood is just breathtaking. Missed you and can't wait to try out that yummy pancake recipe!!
Hi Dill! There you are greeting Louise on her way home :D
What a nice photo - you've captured so much all in one frame.
There's Dill saying hello, the horse drawn carriage in the background, blue skies above, the church steeple & the street - perfect!
wow, I certainly wouldn't have guessed that's how you spent your afternoon. Nevertheless it sounds like a charming day. I love the photo as well! Such a pretty white cat! :D
What a pretty place .. it looks lost in time & i am sure the modern noise of a big city plus the fast life of a city, is almost like an alien world in comparison. I love the view that you have given us into this town with this picture even the cat feels safe to walk in the road ... (o; wonderful
Well thank heavens you weren't at the funeral home for the "usual" reasons. Such a nice comfortable feeling photo. My cats are indoor cats but I wonder how I would feel if I lived on an island.
What a great shot Louise. I love it when my cats greet me in the driveway or walkway after a long day. It always kind of surprises me, I guess because it's more of a behavior that you'd expect from a dog. Anyway it always makes me smile. Wonderful job capturing the feeling for me.
Your days are so full! And all of your photos are so detailed...so much to notice, but of course, your commentary fills us in with the rest. What a great way to look back on your summer. I am still trying to decide what I will do with all my year's worth of photos at the end of the year...I do want to bring them all together in some form...well, I still have time to think about that!
@Weezilou he is so full of character and looking at all the photo's of him I'm a fan. I think there should be a Dill calendar :):):) hint hint snap snap
And no, I never would have guessed LOL!
