It's so difficult "to come back to earth" after being away so long! The suitcases are taunting me to spend a long afternoon unpacking, the refrigerator reveals its emptiness, and (Horrors!) my desktop computer seems to have given up the ghost in our absence! Everything was backed up before we left home, so I'm not going to whimper, but it was one more stop today to see if CPR can save it. We shopped and restocked the pantry, sifted through a pile of mail, and reconnected with our pets. (We'd left behind four cats and a canary and came home to a new adoptee cat as well... *sigh* He's a handsome young man who's going to need a visit to the vet if he expects to continue to call my yard home...if you know what I mean!)
By late afternoon Ken had set up my laptop and my priorities shifted. Arrange some fresh flowers, thaw extra fish to share with the kitties for dinner, spend some time on 365 and put off unpacking for another day. Yah, that sounds about right!
I love your sense of priority! That's my style.... the house is falling down around me and I'm looking at a flower or taking photographs or reading a book ..... !!! Welcome home and enjoy reclaiming your territory..... what a trunkfull of memories you've brought back with you.
Welcome home! Although of course to us you've never been away! Such memories Louise of your summer, now so much to look forward to and we are keen to meet the new resident.
Welcome Home! SoCal is (I'm sure) glad you're back! Beautiful flowers - I love your composition. Say 'Hey' to my Aunt Vivian and my cousins, Carol and Donna and their respective husbands. They all live in your area. :-)
Welcome Home Louise! I know that it's such an odd feeling to be in your own home and yet feel out of place. You will be back to your old routine soon enough (even though you are still going to miss your summer time routine). Hope that things get back to feeling comfortable and happy for you soon. Tomorrow, rip off the band-aid and unpack those suitcases...it might help. : )
Well it does sound like you have a busy day or so ahead of you while you get settled back in. Smart idea to allow your mind / emotions time to catch up a bit before everything else.
Welcome home! Cats seem to find you no matter where you are. Then again, cats do have a great sense of who the good ones are (I have learned to be wary of people my cats don't like...they're usually right). I think you have your priorities straight... get some food, get some flowers and take some time to unwind! The suitcases aren't going anywhere and I've heard they're pretty patient. ;-)
Welcome home! The flowers are lovely. So you got adopted again. My uncle used to say we had "sucker" tattooed to our foreheads in an ink that only cats could read. They seem to know how to find us, don't they?
Welcome home sweet Louise! Know what I like about coming home if I have been gone for a long time.....the smell. No really, every home has a smell and it is not until you have been gone a while that you can smell what your own home smell is. haha weird I know
welcome home!! I always think the best part of coming home is seeing the garden (and cats when we had them) again. Nothing beats sleeping in your own bed! You have unpack your bags so you can repack them for the next trip! Love reading your journaling!
We used to go to Florida for 4 months each year until grandchildren put a kink in our style…or rather made it hard to leave. Coming home is sweet – just a different routine. Welcome home…you’ll be back on the road soon enough! Babies have a habit of not being on time!
It must be nice to be home. The cats must have been so excited to see you. After, of course, their initial - oh, it's you? Cats - gotta love 'em! The flowers are beautiful.
Welcome back. I'm sure you'll settle right back in after the initial surreal jolt of arriving "home". You've created a wonderful document of Lunenburg 2010 if you need a little time travel. Let me know when you're ready and we can go feed the squirrels. :)
Welcome home to you both, haven't had time to see much of 365 for the last week, too busy cuddling my new grand daughter back to normal next week if the flights work.
Your photo is just beautiful. Flowers do cheer everything up. It must be strange to get back into the California "groove", but I'll bet all your Cali friends (AND pets) are so glad to see you. P.S. Are you going back to Chicago for the baby's birth? (THAT's probably a question that I already know the answer to!!)
Louise, so excited for you! I'm also an "expectant GRANDmother-to-be. My daughter is having TWINS in January, a boy and a girl!! (Although her doctor says it's more likely to be in December). Getting my bags packed to live in Pittsburgh for awhile, haahhha
Welcome home! It's such a bittersweet feeling, but at least you came home to an extra friend. Maybe Dill sent him/her to take his place until you come back to Canada? :).
Such a welcoming composition. And pretty impressive that you still had flowers in your garden after being away all summer...mine would have died even if I never left home...oh, maybe you bought them...yah, that must be what you did! LOL Thanks for thinking of my friend...you must have ESP b/c here I sit at the hospital with him again. He had colon resection surgery yesterday so things are tough again right now ...but he now we see some light at the end of this tunnel!
Gorgeous welcome home bouquet! Your home looks beautiful, Louise! So sorry to hear about your computer issues! I always worry about mine when I go on vacation because I can't shut it down or it won't come back on.
And yes, I do know what you mean about that visit to the vet LOL.
what a lovely photo! welcome back! I responded to your comment on my duck photo. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to say @ Weezilou or @ Louise & Ken for it to notify that I mentioned you in the comment.
Hi Louise! thank you for your comment on my wedding photo.
I do still have my wedding dress packed in a huge box. it's as good as the day I wore it. In those days they use to "pack" your dress for you.
My sister still has the bridesmaid dress too.
I think these dresses may have shrunk over the years ha! ha!
Welcome home! Nice flower arrangement. Very pretty. And I love that you may have a new addition to your clan. Cats just seem to love you huh? Unpacking can always wait. You gotta relax and unwind first.
wow! sounds like a busy day!! i am so glad to hear that you are helping keep the animal population down! (if that's what you were referring to!) coming home can be overwhelming...but i bet that first night in your "real" bed was pretty nice....
I hate packing and unpacking... Sometimes coming home makes the magic disappear... But you have to think of the trips and the exciting events ahead! A new baby is about to come into the world, a voyage to Rome is on the horizon, and the next summer in Lunenburg awaits! ;-) Besides, if you miss too much the old town ambiance, you and Ken are more than welcome to come visit us in Washington! I am loving the town more and more! The walking trail runs parallel to the Missouri river and it's only 5 min away from our house. I go there every morning, and then I explore the streets around. There's lots of neat old shops on Mainstreet, and the riverfront restaurants are a delight ;-) Definitely no lack of photo opportunities and inspiration!
My sister-in-law is impatiently waiting for the baby to come! Ocotber 1st is the magical date. She lives only an hour away, so me and my mother-in-law try to visit her at least once a week. I am sure we'll be going more often once the baby gets here! ;-) I can see from the pictures that Ashley is excited, too! You and Ken will be some proud grandparents soon! ;-)
WOW the flowers are beautiful and youve arranged them really well and that vase sets them off really nice. I need a new vase so badly. All mine are skinny and when I do get flowers I keep kicking myself that I need to invest in a really nice vase.
We used to have 4 cats plus 2 that adopted us. My friend across the road used to say that we were the feline holiday home for the area because we always seemed to have cats visiting and wanting to stay. Now that we have Mummy Muchka who is very old and outlived her own kitties we like to keep it just her so that she can enjoy her old age in peace (until Monty came to live with us) So now Monty isnt allowed upstairs so Muchka gets some privacy :)
Lovely day to come home. Poor kitty though. Wonder if he knew, if he would reconsider. Think it's great you are taking him to the vet and getting him fixed, so many people forget how it's so important to do this, for every cats sake!
Good to see you have your priorities right with your homecoming :D
Jut love your story about the new puss !! :D
This is an awesome picture!
hope that computer can be salvaged. welcome home! (:
Welcome home. :-)
sorry to hear about your computer, but good for you, making sure everything was backed up! coffee by the pool this morning?
And no, am guilty of using filler pics not taken on that day.. oops!
And yes, I do know what you mean about that visit to the vet LOL.
