With Internet access and a little time at the end of the evening to post a picture, here's another from Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland. I don't know that the scale and enormity of this little selection will translate in this photo. We're in a valley between two towering rock faces, and they're covered with immense icicles. Some have melted enough to create towering waterfalls, and some crack or break causing the sound of thunder to clap through the town. We arrived in snow, but watched much of it melt in the following days. This morning we traveled to Lake Geneva for the day and walked in a heavy snowfall to the train station at 8 AM, we had the beautiful sight of snow falling as we traveled, but over the three hours the sky cleared, we dropped to a lowerelevation, and we had a beautiful, blue-sky visit at the lake. The weather held and I got photos across a range of weather. They're still in the camera as I write... I'll go through them on a day when we don't have Internet and hope for a good one to post here at a later time.
This weekend we head to France. We've been following the weather reports in Paris and they really got a lot of snow! As we're doing this trip by train and on foot, I'm personally hoping some of that global warming will make its way there!
Thank you all for the lovely notes you've left, and thank you for understanding why I'm not able to leave comments at present. Merry Christmas to you all... You and your stories through your photographs have been a gift I've enjoyed this entire year!
Amazing shot of the icicles on the cliffs. I would hate to be under one when it fell! I am enjoying your adventure through your photos so much. I was just in Switzerland in October, and it wasn't quite so snowy and cold, but it was ,oh, so beautiful!!!
Yes Louise the scale does translate! What fantastic icicles, like Linda I wouldn't fancy being underneath them, but they certainly look spectacular. Do hope the weather in Paris improves for you, on Tuesday it was zero in Paris and 17°C with us! However it's cooled down here today but no more snow at the moment thankfully. We're looking forward to a visit from the family next week, I'll be able to have another two weeks with Eloise (just hope the weather in the UK and here doesn't conspire against us!
Keep enjoying your trip and post more wonderful pics when you can.
Wow!! I am in awe of the beauty and think I can imagine the size! Wow! I heard about the snow in Paris earlier today. We haven't even gotten any snow here in Michigan yet, or at least in my area.
When you get back I have to remember to ask you how you pack for these long trips. I tend to take my entire house full of stuff for a week in the woods. I can't imagine having to pack for a trip like this!
When you compare the size of the icicles to the trees below - WOW! I agree, standing near might be hazardous to your health. Breathtaking views - all of them! Thanks so much for sharing!
I can only imagine the enormous size of those icicles, some probably as big as trees. I am sure the scenic area up there is gorgeous. Hope you have nice weather to enjoy your trip to France, and a safe one.
These are some kinds icicles! Love the fine detailing of the snow on the tree branches. Did you bring warm enough clothes? I imagine a S. Californian would have to buy all new winter togs for this trip.
Oh, my gosh! Now those are some 'cycles!!! Just a beautiful shot. Looking forward to seeing some French shots, although after looking at Helene's pics...I think you are in for some Parisian snow. http://365project.org/parisouailleurs/365/2010-12-08
Paris i December - what a delight! I was lucky to go there two years ago around this time of year and it was magical! Cold, but so beautiful! I am sure you are having a wonderful time, can't wait to see the pictures when you get a chance to post them! Stay warm, take in all the marvelous sights, and enjoy the rest of your trip! :-)
Hope you enjoy Paris Louise. It is one of our favourite places whatever the season. Let us know if and when you hit the Uk.....snowing here too I'm afraid! Thank you for a great year of pictures and fun. I'm nearly done with my year but already considering what to do next year!! Happy holidays to you and all your family. btw you have missing a great many squirrel pictures! They will always remind me of you now! :-)

Merry Christmas to you too! I hope you encounter pretty snow - but that it does not hamper your travels. It sure has been fun getting to know you this year. Are you going to keep going in 2011?
Hi, Louise...nice to catch up with you again. I just cannot believe what a wonderful adventure you and Ken are on...how is ole "Rhett" by the way? I am enjoying your adventures vicariously...maybe one day I will have someone special in my life who might like to go on such an adventure with me...wow...all your photos have been awesome. You will have to buy a HUGE storage drive just for this trip's photos alone! A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!
Dear Louise, thank you so much for your sweet holiday note! Me, Jeremy and Tao send you lots of greetings and kitty kisses! :-) Enjoy the rest of the trip, keep taking amazing photos, and I am sure we'll find a way to stay in touch, even if you don't post anymore on 365! It's been such a pleasure to get to know you over the year and to take a virtual part in your amazing adventures! Happy Holidays to you, too, and all the best on the rest of your delightful trip! :-)
Hello, Louise! Sending you holiday wishes as you journey through Europe! Sounds as though you're finishing up this project as we come to the end of the year. It has been quite as ride, hasn't it? Only 10 days and 10 photos left for me! I have decided too continue on (and will miss you terribly!). I have enrolled in two photography classes, so hope to learn more about my latest camera (which has the ability to be operated manually) and hope to improve my photography skills. When will you be back in the States to visit that grandbaby?
louise--thank you so much for the sweet christmas wishes!! i have LOVED following you on your journey (both this trip and in general!) your 'pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul'! I wish you and Ken the best of Christmases and lots of traveling in 2011. any plan yet?
THIS. IS. AMAZING.
Mom, as I sit here on Christmas night, I'm missing you guys so much. I have ducked away and hopped on someone's computer to browse through your photos. They are so lovely and I'm glad you are able to share pieces of your journey with everyone. I can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks! xo!
Merry Christmas to you wherever you might be right now. We followed the bad weather in Europe and hope your travels haven|t been ruined. Hope you have a wonderful time.

I wondered what had happened to you. I w as doing the rounds of wishing people a happy new year when I realised that I not heard anything of you and Ken. I hope you had a great Christmas and wonderful new Year and look forward to seeing your posts later . II will be staying on until I get job so it could be a while.

Happy new year!
A story is doing the rounds that you are (nearly) home. http://365project.org/skt/2011/2011-01-08
I do hope it's been a WONDERFUL time. Look forward to seeing all about it:)
@dmrams@tiep@tkm77@skt Thanks all! We're back in the states and seeing our family until the end of next week. It's been fun, but it'll be nice to be back home after so long living out of a suitcase! I've missed everyone, too, but it may be awhile yet until I settle in with time on the computer. "Catching up" isn't looking like an option after so long, but glad to see so many are crossing over into a new year on 365!
Just swinging by to let you know I miss you and hope you are having an awesome time! I see you are back in the states! Hope you have an easy time of settling in.
So glad to hear that you are back & getting settled. Can't wait to see your pics from all of your adventures. Afterall, your posts are my postcards :)
Happy New Year Louise!
Louise, missing your posts. I'll bet it was wonderful to see that grandbaby again!! Our grandbaby twins were born on 01/01/11!! Hope to catch some of your posts soon!
...yes, touchdown in California! Have had a great time, but came home to so much I should catch up on, I really need adult supervision to keep me away from the computer (but we were without internet service at the flats for the final 3 weeks and I missed it!)! FYI, by accident, I left behind my camera and 1200+ photos on the card at my daughter's. Until it arrives, I will drop in a bit to see pictures between piles of laundry, reacquainting with my kitties, answering Christmas letters and restocking the refrigerator! I feel I've lost some momentum, but appreciate being remembered. Congratulations to those of you (Steve, Denise, Lux and Lois & Elizabeth!) who've rounded the 365 milestone!
Welcome home...3 weeks and no internet? I guess one can adjust but the first few days of withdrawal would be painful for me! I ended year one on DEC 31 but am a glutton for punishment (along with several others) so am back for year 2 but hopefully will be more laid back about it...well, that is what I said to myself but I am already berating myself for lack of creativity some days! What adventures you have had ...whew! Have enjoyed seeing all the pics! PS _ Please tell Clark I send my love ;-)
Welcome home, Louise!! =) Glad to hear you made it back safely! =) It will definitely take you some time to reaquaint with normal life again, but no hurries, take it slow! We will be here whever you are ready to post again! :-))) can't wait to see and hear more about your adventures! :-)
@helenmoss@kidatheart@elizabeth@tee62@slava@doramendes@hwy61 So good to see you all again, too! I realize this single photo has been a gathering site for too long and I hope to have some "old" photos from the trip to fill in and update some of the blanks one day. I'm still waiting for my camera and photo card, so have been catching up with projects around the house instead of at the computer. I hope to find my momentum again one day, though I've now got a big gap in my daily photos. Keep taking wonderful, story-telling pictures and I look forward to coming by to see them!
oh Louise! are you back home? so glad to hear from you again!! i have been super busy lately so i kept putting off emailing you but i haven't forgotten about you!! it seems like yesterday that you and ken went to Europe, time really flies! looking forward to seeing your photos soon!
Hi Louise! 365 hasn't been the same without you... :-( I can't imagine what it must be like to be gone that long! You must have a lot of adjusting to do... How's that baby in Chicago? I'll be he's changed a lot! I missed your comments and your photos. Glad you're home safe. :-)
Your camera is arriving tomorrow?!!? Oh good, we'll have morning coffee starting on Tuesday ... lots of new faces, but a few "oldsters" still hanging around!
oh Louise so glad I came to your page. I have been missing you and I knew you were back yet I haven't seen you around. I was worried, but now I am not. I know all is well and you are just reaclimating. Know that your momentum will come back!! xo
louise! i just finished my 365 today and you were the first person i thought of! you are so sweet, my friend. and i intend on starting another year tomorrow because well... i just can't wait! haha. hope to be more active and chat more with you this time around. this photo is awesome and i'm glad you're having fun on your travels! much love!
Welcome home Louise and Ken! Glad you have arrived safely home. I've started a new album, completed my first one on Jan. 26. It was interacting online with talented and kind people like you that made me look forward to documenting another year in photos. Just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me so much throughout this project!
I think I spied a comment from you on a friend's picture so it appears you may be peeking around the 365 community again. We've missed you. I wondered. Hope all is well and that 2011 is off to a great start for you.

I have been offline for a while - camping holiday - no or very slow limited internet access.
We'll find a way to keep in touch :)
