Makiki Heights Overlooking Honolulu and Diamond Head

I had trouble deciding between a panorama from this location, or a photo of Diamond Head and some of the city...I'll see if this works... (View Large; It really does show up nicely!) Every visit to Honolulu, I come to this particular overlook (of the many on this island). The University of Hawaii is in the Manoa Valley on the lower left and I lived there as a child. Those many years ago, there were no high rises, and only 4-5 hotels along Waikiki Beach which is just up-photo from the bright green line of bushes. The airport is off to the right, so when you leave the islands, a window seat on the left affords a sensational view of Aloha Tower, Waikiki, Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay.

A piece of my heart always remains here...I think you can see why...
Magnificent. It must have been magical to live there as a kid before the take over of the high rises.

Gorgeous panorama. Easy to see how there would be so many memories of this beautiful spot. Last year when we went there we hiked Diamond Head and stayed in one of the newer highrises near Waikiki beach. We were upgraded to a penthouse suite for our night there the view was much like your photo.

@dailypix Good for you and Mike for making that memorable hike! We've been inside the crater, but never walked it. It's wonderful to get an upgrade like you did...I'm delighted for you! I hope you took advantage of the photographic opportunities of that view!

@Weezilou We tried to. The hike was fun except it rained all the way up and down so we were soaked. But it makes for memories you don't forget. Would love to go back to Oahu and explore more there. :)
