Practice Practice Practice...

I'm loving this texturing process! I've been reading that we can create our own textures, and I love written text, so I photographed a number of old post cards to get started... The obvious above would be to turn the card, or work with a horizontal photo, but it helps sometimes to see what's not working and why. I used the same tutorial, which suggests removing all texture from the primary subject, but I wanted some text across the flower. Again, I need more practice, but I'm trying to work that out. Finally, I put my finished piece into Photo Effects, added a pre-selected texture and color, and reduced the opacity by about 60%. I 'd like the flower to look a little older and will welcome any suggestions I could take along the way in the steps... Thanks!

I wondered if you would start creating textures. This is wonderful! Can't wait to see how you continue to play! OH! wait! You called it practice!

Great job, Louise.

@stray_shooter Thanks, Ron...This is all I want to do for the present...though I have no idea what I'll do with them at the end of "play time!"

@voiceprintz Who knew how easy it would be to make my own textures! I've been wanting to use old text, and I've got plenty to pick from! And chippy paint...just wait til I return to NS! (I may be onto something new by then, however!)

@jamibann Thanks, Issi... I doubled the width and wrote an email to a friend on the blank side this evening! I love having "pretty" photos for emailing...makes it more interesting for me, if not for them!

@Weezilou Absolutely. I often send a personalised photograph, when I send an email to wish someone good luck, or happy birthday .... good use of the photos I think!

What a lot of hard work Louise for a lovely and effective shot. Actually you've inspired me to get out my grandparents post card collection and see what I can do. Hope you wouldn't mind the copy? Fave!

You've done great work here

@Cherrill What a *marvelous opportunity* to use something really meaningful, Cherrill! Truly, just toggle back and forth between the instructions and your work...it just goes step by step and is *way more fun* than work! For years I was a college artist with ephemera, old photos and text + water colour crayons and pencil, etc... Now we can have all the pieces here on the computer, and get just the look we were going after so much more easily! While I want to adhere to the photo-a-day journal on my site, I am totally excited by going back to some of my old art ideas. And if I actually had family memorabilia, as you do, wow, how much more that would elevate it! Have fun! You're guaranteed success!

I so admire what you have done as I keep looking at how people have created various effects. I am not yet ready to plunge into anything like this yet but shots like this get my appetite for creativity going. This shot has a lovely nostalgic and elegant feel to it. I'm reading the various comments and I can only do straight forward emails. There is so much to learn but I love this creation of yours. Fav
