Out on the road at 9 to get to the first craft fair...and came to a banner saying it was on Sunday... As the other craft fair I wanted to attend didn't open until 11, we headed to the Banyan Tree to meander & take photos. And there, sometimes, the unplanned activities turn into the best! Throughout the park was yet another craft fair, and additionally, beautiful Hawaiian music being played on a bandstand. As we wandered, we found Lahainaluna High School students were making leis for a fund raiser, so Ken bought me one...more photo ops. The lady in the upper right was helping the kids, and she said to be sure not to miss the hula show at 10. (You don't have to ask me twice!) Well, it was wonderful! These a just a few of the ladies who took part, members of the Senior Ctr, and their different groups danced for an hour! They were wonderful! Amazingly, they ranged in age from 70 to 90, and they didn't just learn to dance yesterday!
Again, "Lady in White", saw I was taking a lot of photos, so she asked if I'd take her camera and take pictures for her when she danced. Well, how much fun! I'm not shy about walking to a stage and getting the shot I want, or asking the ladies to gather for a group photo before going on stage. I know she'll like what I was able to get for her.
But here's where the morning took a wee turn... As she was dancing late in the program, she took a spill, and had to be escorted off stage. I was sure to ask if she was all right...she was...but I didn't see her after that.
They closed that hour's segment with everyone...Everyone from stage & audience...holding hands in a circle and singing a song of Aloha...I somehow lost Ken in the crowd, but I was holding the hand of the lady on the upper left. She said she'd seem me taking a lot of photos and I said I'd like a way to get some to them. That's when she told me to contact the Maui Senior Center...but tonight I found they don't have a very user friendly web site. We'll drop in on Monday and I'll be sure to get all the photos to them...just a small token of gratitude for the delightful hour they brought us all!
It was an awesome day...just wonderful! We got to the church bazaar that was more about family activities...but they had delicious baked goods for sale...
9 AM tomorrow we'll be at the next craft fair that sounds like something wonderful...
@Weezilou Louise, you and I are always in the same "time zone"!! I so enjoyed your description of getting up on stage to photograph these ladies dancing, and then corralling them for a group photo! Yes, I saw the little red thing flash at the top as I was posting, and I was intrigued to find that you had commented on a photo from so long ago! Yes, that was one of my favorites, and the words in that song are haunting! I have always loved them......whatever brought you to it, I am so glad you did!
@gilbertwood@cimes1@thirdjoe@panthora First, Osia, I didn't go "up on stage"...just went nearby for close-ups! We went by the Senior Center today and I immediately ran into one of the dancers, Arleen. I'm sending her all the photos and she'll get them to everyone...@chard we had a lovely chat, and I got an invitation to come to their Wed morning class! Everything we do depends on the boys schedule... Also, I asked about "Anita", who fell... She thought she was all right, but she broke her wrist. That totally sucks for her... I don't even have but a couple photos of her dancing because I used her camera to take all her photos... Anyway, there's the update...
