Again ... One year Later!

Bees are so amazing! Just one year ago (3 days different) we had a swarm that I photographed in our yard. This morning we were out front talking to the contractor, and Ken saw the bees flying in an agitated fashion, the start of the swarm. Even by the time I ran inside to get the camera, they had settled down. I took photos, came in and checked them...went back and took more... They were still moving a lot, not having settled down, and I suspected we'd come to blows... One persistant one settled into my hair and wasn't going to leave... I determined not to run, but finally had to sweep him off... I paid my dues for the photo and he made the ultimate sacrifice for his hive.

I'll wait for the sun to move in the afternoon when it's warming them (and lulling them, I hope) and I'll try again. They really are quite wonderful... I wish I could convey my feelings to them. It's a fact that we wouldn't exist without them...
Amazing how well their internal clocks work, like swallows returning to Capestrano. How brave of you to take one for the team.

What a wonderful swarm. I keep signing online petitions to try and get scientists/governments to take them seriously as they are essential to our survival fav

Wow, that's some image.

@kelly2 I'm so proud of you for keeping after that! I should have guessed you feel that way, being a serious gardener. When this happened last year, someone suggested "we could get rid of them"! You might well imagine how I reacted to that!!! (I adore them!)

So fascinating that they are creatures of habit! great capture of them :)

Wow scarily beautiful!!

great focus... get some honey...

@pippie They've been in a hole down through the cinder-block wall post for quite a long time! I KNOW there's honey there, but no way is it possible to go in after it!

Wow... awesome nature in action shot!

PLEASE send some of these down to us. We need our fruit trees pollinated. Haven't had an apricot on either of our two trees for two years, for example. We think that the twice yearly spraying of the surrounding avocado groves kills off the bees. Don't see any of them around anymore.

Scary.

@aglennc Oh, what a shame...no, a travesty!...to kill off the bees in the process! WHAT are they thinking! Only at some later date will "people/"they" realize what a bad idea that was! Hopefully it won't be too late! (Just heard the statistic that, without bees, humans would begin to die out within a year...One Year!)

wonderful sight and capture!

Awesome shot

@Weezilou Now THAT statistic is really scary! I might even give a call to our local avocado growing company nearby and ask them about their spraying "solution".
March 27th, 2015
@aglennc As in, who's going to be around to buy those beautiful avocados! (I'm not a banner-waving protester, but I do believe in sharing space and not doing crazy things!)

These are honey bees? AWESOME!! We are seeing less and less of them every year!! How nice to know they are thriving some where!!! This is quite a swarm!!! They pretty much leave you alone if you leave them alone!! I was stung pretty good several years ago by yellow jackets. I stepped over the hole in the ground they were building their nest in!! They flew up my pant leg!!! Other than that I have never been stung and we have many bees in our yard and surrounding area. Fantastic capture and huge FAV!

@cashew I'm delighted to see you so pleased to see this! My photo last year was better as the sun was in a good position, but I was so amazed to see that this seems "to be on schedule" http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-03-23 We never pursued "housing them", but they obviously haven't left! (Our yard has about 14 fruit/citrus trees, so they must be happy here! Yea!) A FAV to you for your caring!

A fantastic shot, and very interesting.

Are those Bee`s ? It looks like Wasp`s to me, but I can be wrong. We did have once a nest of them near our bedroom window. We could n`t open the window the whole summer. ( to destroy was to difficult). But the good thing is, they never make a nest twice on the same spot/place.
A very brave capture.

Amazing shot. That would scare me to death.

I love that they have returned. A lovely wooden house would be great for them and for you to house the honey! I am so glad you have a preservation heart. I thank you for taking care of nature!

What a wonderful happenstance.
March 28th, 2015
Hmm. This is a wonderful shot. Not sure I'd like to get that close though.

Wow, just wow!! So glad they are coming back year after year! I had a strange experience with a swarm one year when we still had a loquat tree and a driveway in the front. I noticed a darker area as I was getting in my car, and thought it was dry leaves and wanted to pull them off, and this swarm of bees started flying all over the place! It was pretty scary....but, somehow I survived! And, was happy to see them in our yard!
